Hi all, After getting a PAL, I am looking to get a shotgun for the rest of my stay in Canada (until winter some time probably). I have found some Lanber and Laurona O/U's on the tradeex site at good prices. I was looking (and still am) for a lower piced pump as I want to hunt waterfowl in the fall. I prefer doubles, hence my question... Do you guys ever shoot steel through doubles? I would only use the modified choked barrel. A friend split his older full choked rem 870 with steel, so I would stay away from steel in that barrel, or if I feel rich, buy tungsten polymer for the full choke barrel. Opinions? I have never used steel at home...how many shoot fixed choke doubles with steel. I have heard that Lanber and Laurona are tough guns...

A general rule of thumb is that any shotgun of current manufacture, i.e. last 15-20 years, SHOULD be steel shot safe, PROVIDED you do not shoot steel through any choke tighter than modified. This is a generalization only, and I cannot say whether it would apply to the Lanber shotgun specifically. Steel shot can certainly be shot through modern double shotguns, provided the barrels have been designed for steel. Generally this information is available through the manufacturer. This is not especially useful information to you given that you need manufacturer specific information, but it is probably the best you're going to get without going to the maker.
