I got SFA, also known as NIL...again. Been 7 years since I got anything decent, and it was God knows how many before that...

So you BC boys tell me... what species are on LEH draw, or does this depend on the zone? Is this completely luck-of-the-draw or is there such a thing as priority?

I always figured I'd stick around in Alberta a little ways longer (till kids are out of highschool, promise I had to make to my family), but then I'd hop across and start chasing all those critters that I can't here in Alberta (grizz, goat, thinhorned sheeps). But from what you write here that might not be that straightforward, even for a resident?

Frans, here are the LEH choices. They post the odds of getting drawn, as well.

Frans,

Most animals are available somewhere in the province on a general open season (ie. over the counter tag). But, some locales have some species on LEH, and some species are on LEH over the majority of their range (ie. ALL g-bears are LEH).

EG's. Moose is GOS throughout the north, but on LEH throughout most of the south where its numbers are lower and vulnerablity to overharvest is higher. Same with goats....mostly LEH in the south with a few open areas in more inaccessible units.

Then there are some highly coveted "special hunts" where they can't have a GOS because the pressure would be too high for the limited resource...eg. sheep in certain areas with limited numbers and fantastic genetics, the bison in the Pink Mt/Sikanni Chief River area, etc, etc.

Then there are the "antlerless" draws which are meat hunts, but the numbers of females removed from the population must be strictly regulated, etc.

I highly recommend taking a quick read of our Hunting Regulations Synopsis and the LEH Synopsis (both available on the web)....you can figure it all out way quicker by reading that than someone typing it out here. Smiler

Cheers,
Canuck

In a nutshell, the sooner I get over there, the sooner I can start testing my luck (which in cases like this is usually pretty poor; the only draw I ever won was to become teamleader at a company "team building" exercise. Oh, and I drew for goat in Montana last year, but those odds were 50/50 or better).

I could see a lot of drawing effort going into some sheep and grizz hunting... and with my luck, well, it may NEVER happen.

Thanks for explaining though.

Frans

I got drawn for grizzly again close to home. I 've been drawn several times before, but never found the bear I want. I am still waiting to be drawn for bison, 0 for 11 or 12 , I think.
