Is this a possibility in Eastern Canada? I am looking at law school on the east coast next year and am thinking that I might get the opportunity to run up north and do some hunting. I know there are certain opportunities for winter caribou, but I am very interested in moose. Thanks

I think they all require a guide if your a nonresident. might be a ezception if you a full time stufdent like some states do. But unsure of that.

NO DIY for you in CA! You are consideres a nonresident alien in Canada, so, you need a guide to hunt big game. Zeke

Are we 100% sure? You can hunt without a guide on Anticosti.

Ontario allows non-resident hunting, without a guide, but you must purchase your tag through an outfitter/lodge. Knute

Interesting, I know that there are certain exceptions for caribou in Quebec and it seemed like there were similar ones for moose? Depending on the zone that I was interested in hunting. David, do you happen to have a good reasonably priced outfitter that you could recommend?

there is no exceptions for caribous you purchased the tags from an outfitter and can have no guide but good luck ... without a guide wont be the easy way. in Quebec you can buy OTC moose tag but you need to know where to go and this is party huting for moose from 2 to 4 people for a moose. so you need to know the are where you want to hunt, have friends and logistics otherwise this is easy lol ..

You might convince an outfitter to do a drop camp somewhere, you'll still have to buy a tag from him but would be able to hunt on your own?

justanotherhunter, I don't have any personal experience with an outfit in Ontario, but a few years ago I did a bit of research on Ontario, as I was looking for a DIY hunt, also. In the 50's, 60's, and 70's, my father did a lot of moose hunting in the Red Lake/Ear Falls area, and was very successful. I ended up going to Alaska in 2010 instead, and fell in love with it. My son and I are planning on returning in 2014. I would still like to do a hunt in Ontario, though, just to retrace some of the steps my father took. Knute

http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/stdpr.../document/239844.pdf I just found this on goolge! You can get a moose tg on the internet for $449.58. More info here http://www.ehow.com/about_6745...s-non-residents.html I am not sure this helps. Good luck! "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."
