I'm still trying to figure out why my pics end up so huge on this site, they seem normal elsewhere ? Confused That's a pair of grizzlies mating, by the way. Wink

ah ah well not at all ... do not worry i got the same problem of idendification at first ...

the big one is a female with 4 cubs the smallest had only 3 cubs with her ...

here on that location we have the mountain one like the smallest and clearest and we have bigger coming from southern alaska following the river that almost looks like a boar. i wish it was a boar but it was not ...

medved,
There use to be a outfitting area next to Kluane national park and the indigenous tribe’s land . I believe it was owned by a Austrian gentleman before it was shutdown, then another outfitter had it subleased I believe for 3-5 years, now I no longer see that area on the Yukon outfitting map. I was fortunate to have spent twenty days in that area on two horseback trips with a awesome young 18-19 year old guide who had ran trap lines in that area with his dad when he was growing up. He was friends with a Kluane nations young man who was really into sheep hunting and had taken several 40” dall sheep in his tribal lands. There are some old big grizzlies in that area and some good moose, was not a strong area for dall sheep, not sure if that was caused by hunting pressure in the past or just not great sheep country like the surrounding Kluane tribal lands .

you re thinking about the kusawa lake hunting area ... after a lot of court hearings and decisions north curl is now operating it.

the closest to knp is more the one operating for decades by the dicksons that guided also the special tag for dall on the side of knp ...

in both areas the sheep are not in big numbers (especially kusawa and on draw only for residents and fewer tags for non residents) the most problematic for sheep hunters coming from abroad is the competetion with local hunters and you need to take in consideration the less accessible aereas with an outfitter specialised in sheep that knows where he is to avoid tickets and sheep seizures ... and of course the knowledge of his area and avoid over pressure of hunting even from his outfit only ...

on the side for moose hunting i wont pay an outfitter in that aera for many reasons.

here is the link for the outfitters in the yukon:

https://www.yukonoutfittersass.../outfitter-directory

16 is the kusawa area and the 11 in the southern part s very close to kusawa for the dicksons

medved,
I don’t believe that is a complete list of Yukon Outfitters, maybe just the outfitters who belong to the Yukon Outfitters Assoc. I don’t see Tim Mervyn’s outfit listed on that website link /Yukon outfitters areas. Area 16 boundary looks familiar and or close to where I hunted . What is the large unmarked area east of area 16 that runs to the southern part of area 19 along the BC border? I hunted either in area 16 or in the general vicinity 2 times 20 years ago. We never saw a lot of moose either , but a few bachelor bands with older mature bulls still in the velvet in August. Not sure if the Kluane tribe hunts grizzly, if not could be the reason there are some very large old grizzlies in that area having such a large home territory.

https://open.yukon.ca/sites/de...5.005-Outfitting.pdf

here is the whole territory and actual concessions the one you re mentionning on the east is not an outfitting concession mostly first nation and some crown territories for local hunters on draws,
the main reasons of the size of the grizzlies and population is first due to less hunting and pressure plus the protection of the national park where most cannot hunt there and the other reason is the proximity of southern alaska where the grizzlies are coming from there (rivers are flowing well) to the Yukon and bringing genes to the smaller grizzlies of our mountain.
on a side note interesting to see that tim was the past president of the outfitting association and not anymore a member.
