Was especially interested in the area south of Ashern. Also was wondering if any has used the .308 win. on black bear over bait. I've only shot one with a .308 so I don't have much to go on as most I take are with a .358 win. anyway I was wondering what weight bullet you used, distance of shot, bear reaction(was it a long tracking job) I'm taking a .308 BLR with 180 Rem. RN corelocks as a back up rifle incase something goes wrong with my .358 blr. Comments appreciated.

We are hunting relatively close to Ashern and the bears are only now starting to come out. We had only one bait site hit over the weekend, however the weather is suppose warm up considerably this weekend so more should start to come out. Though I am not a fan of core-lokts for bear, the 308 will be just fine. I would suggest a more solid bullet such as a Nolser Partition or Barnes X. I personally use a 300 WM with 200 gr partitions for hunting, but I do go to the Win 94 in 30-30 (170 gr. Partition) when having to track a hit bear in tight cover.

I have 10 baits out. One was cleaned out today. None of the others have been touched yet. Things can change very fast if we get one or two warmer days. When it gets 5 to 10 degrees below freezing at night not much happens. David
