Update from the Radisson Hotel in Vancouver, B.C. I arrived last night from Detroit, Mich and the flights were all good and the security problems from the Christmas issue all seemed to be fine..I am leaving shortly for the airport flying to Williams Lake, B.C to hunt with Doug McMann aka "Chilcotin Hillbilly" our plan is to go find one of those monster Tom Cats that he and his hunting area are noted for and hopefully even chase a wolf or two,,,we will keep everybody posted on how things are going. Happy News Years to all.

Update...Doug picked me up at the Williams Lake airport on News Years Day we made a 3 hour drive to his camp in Tatlayoko Lake his camp is beautiful and top notch with excellent food, we started hunting the following morning and by 10.30 am we had located a Tom Cougar track by 11.30 am we had him treed he was a 150 pounder and a nice cat, since I have all ready taken 3 cougars over the years I am holding out for a big Tom one that his area is noted for this is where the world record cougar was shot, he trees a couple of 200 pound cats every year there are not many places in the world that hold big cats. In four days of hunting we have been on a bunch of different cat tracks it looks like this is a excellent cougar area with no hunting pressure. I will post some pictures and more updates soon

Pictures from Skinner Creek!

The dogs are ready to go!

Although I did not connect we had a really good time chasing and treeing cougars, I was holding out for one of those 200 lb plus cats that this area produces, all in all a defiant successful adventure, the weather changed to rain at the end of the hunt making the conditions real tuff for locating fresh tracks. Anyway we are set to go again next year we have a very unique trip set we are planning on boating 25 miles across Tatlayoko Lake this is the lake in my pictures above. This will get us access into a very remote and un-hunted area of B.C. this will be the real deal and should be one hell of an adventure because of the logistics and cost to do this type of hunt we need 1 more hunter to join us, if there are any of you guys wanting to come please get in touch with Doug you will be able to take 2 cougars, Lynx and Wolves’ on this hunt.

Doug McMann the outfitter/guide can be reached at skinnercreek@telus.net
his phone number is 250-476-1288.

What a great way to start the new year! I hope you get a cat every bit as big as the one I shot in the Hoback last year. Here is a photo of my houndsman holding the lion:

Good luck Zambeziman! (and Chilcotin Hillbilly too!)

I am sure you will have a great time...hunting cats over good dogs is an experience everyone should try.

Cheers

Cougar attacks are starting to happen in Northern BC now. Latest is at Burns Lake, I believe. Had one 100 yards away from a farmer's house last fall, casing their dogs on the porch, I assume. When the owner's wife went out to see why the dogs were raising a fuss, the cat screamed at her, but did't move. I think she's taken up learning to shoot a rifle now.

Yup, two last week alone, more Black Bear attacks in the past 2-3 years than in my first 20 years of life, 1946-'66 and Grizzlies giving people attitude all over the bloody province.

Hippy "management" of predators has caused this, just that simple and I, as a lifelong, hardcore "greenie" strongly support hunting them as Doug is doing and that will "fix" the problem, IMO.

I have sure seen Grizzles in areas of the Kootenays where we NEVER saw them as kids 40+ years ago AND the baztards are FAR more aggressive toward humans. Most of the time, we never carried guns when I worked in the bush and now, there are places I will not go without a bear gun...and most experienced guys I know do the same thing.

I have to agree with Dewey, here in the North Okanagan we have an ever increasing grizzly population that on occasion will come to a gunshot, looking for dinner.Wolf population is WAY up,and there's plenty of cats.2 years ago I had a female with a grown kitten kill 4 of the whitetails I feed through the winter.I had to cut my feeding way back to avoid attracting predators. Last week in Wyoming, a snowmobiler was waiting for his daughter to catch up and he was knocked off his machine by a mountain lion. He was on a raod. Within 50 miles of that, a lama was killed by a lion in it's owner's pasture.
