While shed hunting with my oldest son last spring we found a matched set of sheds off a very nice 6x7 elk. They had a distinctive point coming off the 2nd point on his right side and were the best matched set we found this spring.

Last week I was hunting close to home and took the bull pictured below, I was beyond grateful for being so fortunate. When I walked up to him I immediately recognized him as the same bull whose sheds we found. There was no doubt when comparing the two.

I have killed a few whitetails whose sheds I have found but never an elk. What are the odds?

Never measured him, but putting my hand around his bases he gained about 3/4" in mass. It was an excellent year for feed, so I'm sure that contributed to his growth too.

Great bull! Congrats!

One year, when we were moose hunting, we found a nice shed moose antler. Dropped it off at the tent. Later that week, my buddy shot a bull, and as soon as he got it, I said I thought we had his shed at camp.
So we checked and they were exact. What's really cool is, the veins in the antler, exactly matched; like fingerprints I suppose.
