Fished the River today and got 9 'bows to 22 inches, we got 21 total. Plus I fair hooked 2 Sockeye and foul hooked 4 others. Saw four Does and One decent 4 point. Also a smallish Blackbear. The main run hasn't come in yet but the BB should be thick in the next week or so. Be here until Tues or Wed. If you get up this far let me know and I'll buy you an imported beer. A Budwieser. Balon tomorrow.

Wow. That’s good fishing. My friend has a cabin at the mouth of the Little Horsefly. He's just up 150 yards or so at the bridge. We saw lots of sockeye when we were up for opening morning two weekends ago. I have the keys for his place. I'm going to stay there after deer season while I hunt wolf and yote. I don't know if I'm going to be up that way. I'm holding back the reins while my bull moose bow hunt approaches in 8 days. I'm saving my gas money for that trip and then its wait for the muley rut. I have two trophy hunts planned in Nov. Balon eh. I miss that area already. Believe it or not, I consider it noisy where I'm living now. I can hear a vehicle once in a while drive by down the hill from here. Are you drifting the river? You have a drift boat? What flies are you using? I'll be fly-fishing the Kspiox and Bulkley on my moose hunt. Egg sucking leach is all I use. 20+ lbs steelies I'm getting all sweaty! ------------------------------- Too many people........

Got skunked at Ballon. I was the only one there, I guess everyone else new better. I did find another way in though. 15 minutes to the Beaver Valley Road and 1/2 hour to Downtown Horsefly. Not very good though. Floated from the Little Horsefly Bridge to Rocky Point on Sunday. 6 'Bows. Saw three Bears but only managed to get my camera out of the baggie in time for one.. I have a 9 foot pontoon boat and access to a 9 foot raft that holds 8. We use both depending on who is going. The river is an easy float with only marginal class 1 rapids now at low water. All the rocks are uncovered and I had to wade and drag over the 'steps'. It seemed there were many more fish in the river Sunday as compared to Saturday. Another week and it will be finished.

Do you drive in to my buddies cabin that has the beater Caprice or do you launch actually at the bridge? Thats the cabin I stayed in 2 weekends ago. I'd love to do a float with you one day. I'm thinking of taking my pontoon boat down there some time but its not the best quality. No anchor system. Downtown Horsefly. Now thats funny. ------------------------------- Too many people........

I just slid it down the bank by the bridge. While I was doing it a lady walked by and said to just come down to her house next time and launch from there. Quite nice of her. You don't need an anchor as most of the fishing we do is from the shore or wading. We just use the boat for transportation and hauling supplies. I used an egg pattern, red or pink. The orange didn't seem to work as well. Floating line and a couple of small shot to bounce it along the bottom. I tried a leech without any luck. A leech patttern works in the river normally. As to Ballon, the bridge is fixed for logging at mile 12. Take a left, past the NO TRESPASSING sign, through the yard and across the upper end of the lake. (You might want to ask permission ) Keep right, up a couple of hills and you will go to the turn off. 4x4 recommended.

She's a nice lady. She keeps a watchfull eye on my friends cabin across from her. I'm surprised you never caught any Dollies/Bull trout? I've had some pretty good action around the openning day dry flying for whitefish. They get pretty big in that river. This crappy weather is killing the fishing around 100 Mile this fall too. I'm not surprised about ballon. Its supposed to be nice for the next week though. ------------------------------- Too many people........
