We just got back form a short trip and my wife saw The ReLM messages about undersubscribed special licenses. She quickly pointed out how many there are available this year. I was shocked. For example, there are something like 700-800 antlerless elk tags available across the province. I started looking in a bit of detail and noticed the cluster of moose tags available around Ft. Mac. Could the abundance of undersubscribed tags be due at least in part to oilpatch layoffs and the Ft. Mac. fire? Too be honest about it for the average hunter the prices of guided hunts has become beyond their means...I know it takes a lot to run and maintain a business and there's a lot more to it than most would ever dream but it's the hunter costs and that also includes tags costs that keep them unsold,...lots of states and providences have all kinds of tags left and it's getting more and more each year !

I hear you about the cost of guided hunts. These are mostly resident only tags though so DIY is the norm. Dean ...I say that hunters go into Paradise when they die, and live in this world more joyfully than any other men. -Edward, Duke of York
