Hunters headed to Quebec should be aware that Tuttulik Outfitters has abruptly ceased operations. Another outfitter, Arctic Adventures has closed three of five camps due to a lack of animals in the area and is making other arrangements for their clients. For details, go to the Hunting Report website at www.huntingreport.com and look at the E-mail Extra Bulletins column.

What is the issue with Tuttulik? Is it no caribou or other issues? Are they out of business for good or this year?

The word is that they ran out of money and weren't able to get a bridge loan to keep them going. It is still unclear how it's going to play out. They may get assistance from the government or other sources, but for now they're shut down.

There is a lot more to it than that. It seems that the caribou numbers are down and the local aboriginals are blaming it on overhunting. They are asking the gov't to cut back on the number of licenses allowed and according to the news there have been several altercations between aboriginals and outfitters. Where things go from here i can't say but I would suggest there will not be the same opportunty to hunt caribou in that area for quite a few years to come.
