In a few weeks I'm heading up to Mackenzie to do a little trout fishing with Sandy39andholding and plan to drive to Williams Lake for the first leg of the drive. Is there any good motels or camp grounds that can be recommended? I haven't been through there since 97.

I know the fishing will be good but will give you a report when I get back.

Thanks,

BJ

If you're willing to drive 1 1/2 hours past Williams Lake to Quesnel, you could stay at "Robert's Roost" campground. It's about 5 minutes off the highway on Dragon Lake, and a very nice campground. I believe there's a boat launch at the campground as well if you wanted to try the fishing.
Dragon Lake is known for Rainbow Trout up to 12 lbs. You might even forget about going farther north.

Send me a message if you're going to stop in at Quesnel. If I'm home from camp, I'll stop by and buy you a cold one!

Thanks for the info but am just stopping to get some rest and then heading on to Mackenzie. I'm meeting up with a friend that lives there. We've been fishing almost every year since 98.

As you drive into williams lake on 97,
you'll see the Overlander Inn on the north side of the road. Its kind of a self contained venue it has hotel, restaurant and pub all in one building. The food wasn't bad when I was last there. but that was several years ago now.
It will get loud on a friday or saturday night, but any other time should be fine.

If you want something cheaper and quieter just up the hill from there is the stampeder motel, I don't know how nice it is now but it was OK a couple of years ago.

There's also a couple of motels on the west side of town past the rodeo arena, but I never stayed in them so I can't vouch for them. If its still there, the Schezwan restaurant on that street had killer food.

I think you'll find the locals in Williams Lake are friendlier than most and if you ask anyone on the street they will steer you in the right direction. I liked that place so much I had a very hard time leaving.

The McLeese lake Resort, 20 min. North of Williams Lake, has a very clean campground on a very pretty lake.
