Chris Kotkas built my 6.5 Gibbs for me in 1998 (stainless barrel, PRI synthetic stock, nickel plated action/bolt). He did some solid work (functions flawlessly, drives tacks), but not the greatest finishing. He also re-furbished a Savage 99 in 250-3000 for a friend of mine, in 2001 or 2002. Same result, but my friend was pretty happy with it.
Don't know if he has any Ruger #1 experience, but I would guess he could handle it. He could be the guy you're looking for.
Can't remember the name of his shop (Gun Connector??), and I don't have his number handy, but he should be pretty easy to track down if he is still in business. I think his shop is on 3rd St S?
Ron Propp moved back to Lethbridge, but he has been retired for about 5/6 years now.
Cheers, Canuck

Chris has closed up shop and is working for the RCMP as an armourer or something like that in Regina. Unfortunately, Ron Propp passed away a while back ... If something doesn't work on my rifles now I just whack them with a hammer until it is O.K.

Not in Lethbridge but Dave Henry from Bentley, AB does great work. His website is http://www.dhenrygunmakers.com Fixed up the trigger on my Ruger. Also is rebarreling my 375 H&H to a heavier barrel with one of Ron Smiths gain twist barrels.
If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. To discourage responsible deserving Canadians from possessing firearms for lawful self-defence and other legitimate purposes is to risk sacrificing them at the altar of political correctness."
