Canadian Outfitter Fred Webb Dies at 77

(posted August 02, 2013)

Longtime Canadian outfitter Fred Webb died on July 25, 2013 in Kamloops, British Columbia. Webb was the founder and owner of Webb Outfitting, which specialized in Arctic hunts for caribou, muskox, barren-ground grizzly and polar bear. He sold his business in 2011, but continued on as a consultant until he was hospitalized in April of this year. We are told Webb suffered from Parkinson's Disease.

Webb was working with the Inuit guide who took over the outfitting business, and had also started working with Dan Frederick at Ameri-Cana Expeditions to market those hunts. According to Frederick, his company is now the exclusive agent for that outfitter. See the upcoming September issue of The Hunting Report for more details.

Webb was a longtime member and support of Dallas Safari Club, Elk Foundation, Safari Club International, Wild Sheep Foundation (formerly FNAWS) and other hunting conservation organizations. Here at The Hunting Report, we remember Webb as an engaging individual who did not hesitate to share his point of view and turn a colorful phrase. We will miss him. Our condolences to the Webb family.

Just got back to civilization and heard this, ......my sympathies to all the family. I knew Fred for 35 years and highly respected him for his outspoken views on various subjects, especially government bureaucrats. He called an ace an ace and could be called the "Godfather of Northern Outfitters".

I was saddened to hear of Fred's passing. I spoke with him quite a few times over the years and he was a straight shooter. Unlike the wishy washy and two faced types that are so prevalent today, Fred told you exactly what he thought and pulled no punches........... and unlike so many, his opinions were based on his real life experience, not someone else's. You could take him at face value.

Fred was a vast wealth of knowledge and a stand up guy. He knew the Canadian North as few do. He will be missed.

It is. I live here and can testify to the fact. I know that George Kunana (the new owner) and Colin Adjun (guide) pointed Jack Brittingham and his crew to some nice bulls this spring, including one real toad that I've seen in his promotional material already.

Excellent description of Fred. There was no fluff to what he said. No sales pitch, just the facts.

Always appreciated his brutal honesty.

Nice man, he was always nice enough to tell a broke military guy about his hunts.
