Anyone tried or use Alpaca socks? Always on the look out for anything to keep the toes toasty!

Never tried alpaca, but I do use standard wool socks year round. Keeps the feet cool in summer and warm in winter. Also nice is that they work even if they get wet.

If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. To discourage responsible deserving Canadians from possessing firearms for lawful self-defence and other legitimate purposes is to risk sacrificing them at the altar of political correctness."

Merino wool, yes...never seen alpaca wool socks.

From a quick google, merino and alpaca have quite a few similarities, but also have some differences.

From what I read, both are great, but alpaca has a couple of advantages over merino...may have to try some out some day!

I have used alpaca socks. They are very warm, very coushioned. I suspect they are like wool and will work when wet also. I bought mine at a natural fibers fair in Taos, NM. I have also seen them on line. I highly reccomend these socks.

Socks ? Canada ? doesn't anyone make socks of musk-ox wool ? that's supposed to be so warm !!

The warmest ones I've used are LL Bean "hollowfill and wool socks " I didn't think anything so good would continue so I stock piled a big bunch !! Sure enough LL bean stopped selling them. Anyone know if they still exist somewhere ?

I've never tried them, but they sound warm. I personally use merino wool, which works great.

Don't think they sell them at the local Wall Mart.

I just picked up a couple pair last weekend. Too soon to say how well they work yet. They do feel nice but so do my Moreno wool.

I run all year long outdoors and have been doing so every week for nearly 20 years. For the past 3 years I have been using two pairs of socks for winter running that by far surpass all the others I have merino and all. They are made by the Smartwool company, are beige, and are the medium weight version. They are extremely durable and really warm.I have some thick quality merino socks but they just cant compare. If you want to walk in the snow with leather boots or shoes use two plastic bags over the socks or wear Sorel boots instead.

I haven't found the need for special socks. The new tech boots seem to insulate well.
