Don't need one to get into Canada from the US, but George won't let you come home, without one. Big Grin

vapodog, you can get a passport in 24 hours.

I'm sure there are plenty of other sites that can help. Just google "24 hour passport"

And if your friends leave the US without one, they are screwed when they try to come back.

Seven of us just came back from a hunt in Saskatchewan. 5 had passports and 2 only had Certified copies of birth Certificates. Had no problems going into Canada or Returning as long as you are driving. Passports are required if you are flying

I believe that's the right answer, Mtfury....but if I understand correctly, the 'must have passport' condition is waiting to be implemented.

There was a flood of Canadians who cross into the U.S. regularily applying for passports (for the past couple of years already), and I think they've just been putting the date off to allow people time to get 'papered up'.

I'm afraid the good old days, when we used to cross for lunch and to check out the gun show, are gone forever. Big Brother doesn't trust us anymore. Pretty soon they'll want us to all have a microchip under our skin, so they can track us everywhere.

They told us at the border that by 2009 we would all need passports. It was supposed to be Jan 0f 2008 but something happened and they postponed it till next year. By the way, it was easier going into Canada than it was getting home. Going into Canada they looked at our gun permits and Passports and said have a nice trip. We were all expecting to have both trucks searched and take forever but everything went perfect other than their phone quit working for about 45 minutes. When they got it back we went right thru. Coming back in wasn't all that bad other than it took forever. Had to check the bears, fish and licenses.

Flying....yes

Driving.....no

Works the same either direction and doesn't matter if you are hunting or not.

The point is moot as once you get a taste for our beautiful country you will want to stay! beer

Yep, until January 1, 2009, when you need one no matter how you travel.
