You are talking about Lake Louise, Alberta?

I don't think there are resident homes in Lake Louise. A friend of mine who thought about applying for a job at one of the hotels told me she would have to live in Canmore, and commute. A very nice commute that would be too! Unfortunately Canmore is very expensive. Not sure if there are any other logical places to live.

What will you be doing up there?

Something else you'll probably want to know is that you need to live in Canada for 1 year before you are considered a resident under the hunting regulations. Until then you are considered a "non-resident alien" and will need to hire a guide in order to hunt.

Not so. Some provinces have stipulations in that regard (hunting law is provincial, not Canadian), and Alberta has no such rule. The minute you can show you live here (e.g. an AB driver's license), you can get a resident's WIN card, etc.

(Unless something changed over the last five years)

BTW, Alberta also accepts Hunter Ed done anywhere in North America "or elsewhere". So Hauke's "Gruenes Abitur" provided he went through that in Germany, is acceptable.

I'm new here and I'm certainly not trying to start an argument with you. I copied this from the Alberta Hunting Regulations:

Resident - a person who either

has his or her only or primary residence in Alberta and

> is a Canadian citizen or is admitted to permanent residence in Canada,

or
has lived in Canada for the 12-month period immediately preceding the relevant date;

or
is on full-time service with the Armed Forces of Canada and would, if an election were held under the Elections Act (Canada), be eligible to vote in Alberta under that Act.


Unless he has permanent resident status, I think he has to wait a year. Perhaps I am misinterpreting the definition though. I'm not sure what it takes to get that status, but he might be coming over on a work visa.

There is no hunting around Lake Louise and there are minimum restrictions for qualifying as a resident in all provinces.

Period.

They vary but they are in place to prevent people from pretending to be residents. And that happens all the time........I have seen it time and time again in BC and in AB. Guess where most of these guys were from?

The key word is "or". If you can meet the permanent residency requirements,like Frans, the time period doesn't apply. If you are just here temporarily, you gotta wait.

Scott, my apologies, I assumed too much. I had PR status and got my license right away, but Hauke could be on a work permit... in which case the 12 months apply.

Hauke, unlike some European countries, there is no relation between hunting license and right to own firearms. You need a PAL (federal) license to be allowed to have firearms, and a hunting license (actually called wildlife certificate in Alberta, and a WIN card, and seperate species licenses) to hunt.
