Wifey has decided that she "needs" to go to Victoria,BC sometime
in late April or early May. Never having been that far west in Canada, any advice would be appreciated. My option is to fly into
Seattle and take either the Port Angeles or Anacortes ferry to
Victoria. Will most likely be there 2-3 days...suggestions on eating places, neat places to see, etc . And where NOT to go also.

Thats a great plan taking the ferry. The downtown area is not that big and there are lots of neat restaurants and a few good pubs within walking distance of everywhere downtown.
The Empress Hotel is a neat spot for high tea. There is a great museum there as well. I wouldn't live there but a real nice place to visit.

Hi Ftg767
Can I assume you are on the 767,I retired on it.You have another option from Seattle the Clipper ferry(high speed Cat passenger only)both it and the Coho arrive down town, the Anacotes ferry arrives in Sidney short final for CYYJ.I'm sure your wife knows about Buchart Gardens, good whale watching, charter fishing, very good museum and of course High Tea at The Empress. If you have the time a drive over to the west coast of the island(past the Martin Mars base)on the way over to Tofino and Ucluelet beautiful country some huge trees where the highway goes through Cathedral Grove.
Feel free to call me 250-655-3383 or at smokie19@shaw.ca

Hi Bill
Retired off the 757/767 2 yrs. ago.
Do you know how long the different ferry rides take?
Thinking of going up one way and coming back another...trip
is in planning/dreaming stage right now.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Again
The Coho from Port Angeles is 90 minutes across the Strait of Jaun de Fuca the Washinton state Ferry between Sidney and Anacortes stops in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island so is 3 hours the clipper between Seattle and Victoria is 2:45.
You could also take the BC Ferrys run from Sidney or Nanaimo over to Vancouver 1:35.The Sidney Anacortes and Sidney Vancouver are beautifull runs throught the Gulf and San Juan Islands.
Feel free to ask if you have any other questions. Bill

If you get out to Langford, check out the Fountain Diner. My son is the chef there. Open for breakfast and lunch only. The smoked salmon eggs benedict is awesome. The benny sauce is made from scratch daily.

I think - just south of Tofino (on the coast) is a rain forest that is exquisite....with trails along the coast edge....magnificent, unmatched coastal scenery. At night, the clearest skies with the brightest "milky way" I have ever seen.

If you are into Victorian history, Anne Hathaway's cottage is a must see. Shakespeare stuff. The suggestion to see the Empress Hotel is a great place to start. Close to the ferry terminal. They can also arrange transportation in and around the city.
