anyone near Calgary shoot a big bore?

I was just wondering, would any of the many Greater Calgary Area dwellers own and shoot a big bore rifle? You know the .416's, .458's, .470's, or even bigger?

I've always wanted to pull the trigger of one of those, but never had the opportunity. So, I guess what I'm asking is...if anybody *does* own one, and shoots it on and off, would he/she be willing to let me have a go, next time 'round? Just to find out what all the fuss is about? ;-) I'll pay for the ammo I use! Maybe just one round [Eek!] [Eek!] !

I hope you get the opertunity to let off one of those big guys.
I'm a new owner of a 416 rem mag.At this time working up loads with 350 gr speer bullets.
Also will be working on loads for 350 gr lead RCBS slugs with xmp5744.
In simple terms it is alot of fun to work with one of these guys, wish I could help you out but P.A. Sask is a long way from Calgary.

Dan,

Edmonton...at least there's a window of opportunity! I find my way up to Edmonton every once in a while. In fact I'm currently writing a three-part proposal for Northlands Park, to do some consulting for them. Would you mind getting together sometime, and let me fire one of your babies?

Sure Frans. Let me know the next time you'll be in this neck of the woods and we'll set something up. At this moment the 50-70 is ready to go, the 450 Ackley is sitting here, but I have to re-stock it (it cracked the original). Both 416's are being worked on (finishing and blueing). And I've just started on two others, one a 470 and I'm not sure what the other will be, probably a 510. - Dan

Before you know it I'll be on your doorstep ;-)

What do you mean "started on two others"...do you build them, or what?

I'm trying to get in touch with the Environmental Manager of Hinton to sell him some of my services...who knows! ;-)

I arrived in Canada, officially in November last year, but after three weeks we snuck out to go sell off our property, quit the job, etc. I arrived end of February this year, and the wife and kids arrived end of March...seems all soooo long ago.

The Dutch *do* seem to appear from every direction, there are quite a few of them around!

Frans, I do as much of the work on them as I can, try to stretch myself a little on each new one. Martin, I haven't found you a job yet, although I did see an add in yesterdays journal that made me think of, I'll have to dig around and find it. Oddly enough, when I was young we had a border that was Dutch (called Dutchie, what else?) and he gave me my first .22. He had been in the resistance during WW2 and was captured and tortured by the Nazis (bolt cutters on his toes, he always only wore felt boot liners, summer and winter) and he felt that people should always be armed. I took that advice to heart, he was great guy. - Dan

Dan: use to have a old friend that was in the resistance,he left me his captured Luger, taken from the officer that indirect killed his younger brother.
Lots of war stories in the old country.

Dan,

didn't know you were in the business of finding jobs for people! Do you find people contract consulting work as well? What are your specialties? [Wink]

Sounds great to meet up with either you or Martin, I'll let you know when next I'm in the area.

Frans, railways, diesel engines (large ones), air brakes, computer controlled air brake systems, locomotive operation and maintenance, independent distributed power (remote controlled locomotives). If you have experience along those lines, I can probably find you work. I offered for Martin as we had been communicating when he mentioned his employment status. - Dan
