FOLKS , I just put a deposit down on a spring bear hunt in Manitoba. Now I'm told I don't have much of a chance to get a choclate/brown phase bear in the SE area of Manitoba !! My outfitter has an excellent reputation & I have no regrets booking with him -I'm just a little dissapointed that I don't have a chance at a color phase bear . Has anyone seen / hunted in the Pine Falls area & been lucky on a color phase ?? Canada has been good to me; I harvested a 500 pound black bear a few years ago in Newfoundland . Thats why I wanted a brown or choclate -I know I was fortunate to get a bear that large & will never get a shot at another like that ! Thank you in advance for your time & help. SOUP

In our area, Southwestern Manitoba around the Riding Mountain National Park, we have a 40- 50% color phase. We ussually get 1-2 500 lb. bear per year. I do not know about southeastern Manitoba but would imagine it might be the same. Good luck with your hunt.

I am in Pine Falls about every 6 weeks or so (on average). I know a couple of bear outfitters in the area...I can ask them. I do know that most of the rugs/lifesize mounts in the lodge of one of those outfitters are 95% black though! Cheers, Canuck
