In viewing both Canada North and Fred Webb's websites, I am extremely glad that I went when I did. In 2000 my cost for a Musk-Ox & Central Canadian Barren Ground was about 8.5K total. Canada North did not list prices, just P.O.R., and Fred Wbb's site listed a combo Musk-Ox & Caribou hunt @ 24K if one species was killed, 27.5K if both species were killed. I admit it has been 12 years since I did my hunt but I did not realize inflation had reached that point. The good side if I read correctly on Fred Webb's site a Musk-Ox only hunt can be had for 7.5K with a second Musk-Ox added for a reasonable fee. Even the rocks don't last forever. | |||

Those prices are nuts on the combo hunts. Given those numbers, my next hunt up north will be for walrus. | |||

Check out Banks Island, good hunts. Generally less expensive, especially in a group. Remember though, air travel is something to look closely at too. Some places are less costly to get to than others. | |||

There are flights from iqaluit to Greenland. I think the airline is Greenland air. There are flight from Ottawa to iqaluit and first air is the airline Joe | |||

I can get the flight from Minn/St Paul to Reyjavik Iceland but they don't give any flights to Greenland. I tried to get a flight from REK To SJF in Greenland but havn't found anything. Everything I get is through Denmark for 4K plus1 Hawkeye | |||

No need to go through denmark.....book your flight from minneapolis to reykjavik at icelandair.com and your flight from reykjavik to greenland at www.airiceland.is .....they have 4 or 5 destinations in greenland. The flight to greenland from iceland is like a local flight so thats why you can not find it at www.icelandair.com ! | |||

We went to Victoria Island last year, hitting the sleds at Ulukhoktok. $4500 apiece all in, plus a second 'ox for $1500. A few of the extras that add up quickly in the north country are included, like a couple nights in the hotel and meals in town if necessary. 'Course if you want to pay more, you can but that doesn't mean that you won't be rideing with the same guides or staying in the same shacks. I know the bunch of hunters who came in after us were being charged $2500 for the second animal, but don't know what the main hunt was charged out at. Booking agents gotta eat too I guess. | |||

.300 Win Mag /.300 WSM with 180 grain or heavier weight bullets placed properly should work fine. My limited experience with one animal is that they can be stalked pretty closely and shooting them at long range is not neccessary. Other folks will have had different experiences, but I mean they are or have been killed with a bow on many occasions. Even the rocks don't last forever. | |||

I shot all mine with a .300 Win, but anything would work. I'd at least give some thought to a bullet that doesn't kill the one behind yours.  | |||

Hi Allan 300wm would be perfect I have a collection of brass in my cabin that I have collected over the years from our hunters and any thing from 270 to 375 works IMHO I think 375 is too much. As to airfare the lodge has a special deal with First Air for reduced fare from Edmonton to Cambridge Bay. Take care, fishing is great and we will be hunting in two weeks.Bill DRSS | |||

Hi Bill, Can muskox be imported into the US? Is a CITIES permit required? How strenuous are the hunts? Is a lot of walking required? Sounds as though a .30-06 with a quality bullet would be fine for muskox. Hi Scojac A 30-06 is perfect for Muskox the hunting is mostly from boats then spot and stalk not a great amount of walking required unless you like walking and then you can go for miles.There is no problem taking a Muskox to the USA no Cities required.As for strenuous the guides look after the hard work all you need to do is walk. About calibers again my hunting partner sent me an e-mail to give me a poke for forgetting to mention that quite a few guys have used muzzle loaders. I did my hunt with Canada North back in 2000. In early September. I did use my .375 H&H simply because I wanted too. I had killed my caribou with my .35 Whelen but decided on the .375 because the guy I was partnered with had a really hard time getting his Musk Ox down with a .340 Weatherby. None of the problem was with the Weatherby however, just bad shot placement. An '06/.308/.270 with a quality bullet properly placed will bring down a Musk Ox. weather in Late August-early September is great up there. or it was when I was up there. Best of Luck. Even the rocks don't last forever. | |||

That sounds very reasonably priced. Do you keep the meat? fly it out back home? What about the hide (rug?) do you keep? or head mount? A head mount would look awesome in my living room! | |||
