Hey everyone. Just wanted to let everyone know that I have been offered my own hunting show on Canada's new hunting channel, Wild TV. The producer has two shows running in the US now and has more hunts than airtime. We already work with them a bit in my business, and since many of the hunts are in Canada already, it was a natural fit. I figured I would mention it here since I would like to have some input with regards to where we go. There will be some hunting in Africa and outside of Canada, but for the most part, I want to concentrate on showing everyone just how good we have right here in Canada. Fact of the matter is that most Americans think of Canada as a hunting Mecca, and if this show takes off like we think it will, it will be syndicated to the Outdoor Channel or OLN in the US. If anyone outfitters that frequent here are intersted in getting involved or if there are any representatives from industry MFGs that are interested in becoming a sponor, please contact me through PM or email. It could be an excellent opportunity, especially getting on board this early in the game. We already have footage for about nine episodes, and plan to launch the show early this spring. Here is the site URL. There are instructions on how to request service. It's such a new network that it isn't available in every area yet. They are working on it right now. http://www.wildtv.ca/ Chris. You are right. There are so many superb species available, and the great thing is, that as a resident of Canada, I can go on these hunts without using up the coveted US tags. Right on Sheldon! I used the link you provided and just got finished sending my request for Wild TV to StarChoice. If you need some ideas for western Canada (BC particularly), give me a holler anytime. I am quite photogenic too. (yah, right!) I know a couple really good outfitters that might be interested in some exposure. Contact me offline if I don't get back to you real soon. Cheers Canuck

Where is Wild TV avaialble here in Canada. I asked my satelite provider (Bell) and they just went HUH??? Right now only in Saskatchewan on Access Network, about 14,000 homes. Very small numbers but a start none the less. Our show has been running on Wild TV since it fired up last fall. I've never heard of TOC syndicating or even paying for a show that they air other than their own productions. As a matter of fact you buy your way on to TOC. Right now primetime is going for $3,600 a minute. OLN (US) used to pay for programing but that ended 5 years ago and just about all their barter deals are finished. Time costs average 2 to 3 times that of TOC. How do I know? We've been airing on TOC the last 3 years. Which shows does your friend produce?

Congrats When is WildTV going to take an active roll in marketing their network, as opposed to, relying on the market to demand their product?

quote: Oh they are trying, but it is tough sledding. We've been trying to get our show which contains hunting on the air in Canada for 4 years. No go. Beverly Kaut was the programming buyer for the CTV group which own TSN, SportNet, and OLN (CA)to name a few. She told me that she did not want hunting on her channels. Bev lives in Toronto, some surprize. The success of Wild TV will have to come from the people and that isn't very hopeful here in Canada where we pretty much do what we are told.

(No I don't have sources for the stats - but it's just numbers I have heard thrown around)

I have been swapping emails with Ryan at Wildtv for quite some time and badgering Shaw, Bell Expressvu and Starchoice to the point where they won't even acknowledge my emails anymore. I have also swapped emails with Jake Hartwick at TOC and have been working to get TOC into Canada. I found a station here in the Fraser Valley that expressed an interest in carrying Bushnel Outdoors locally but when Dave Watson contacted them, they set their prices way too high. Now then, The CRTC has ok'ed Bell Expressvu to retransmit TOC in Canada. TOC wants it and the outdoors fraternity wants it. Bell in the last year has steadfastly refused to carry it. How come? I believe that the Feds have said "Don't you dare"! For Wildtv it has been an uphill battle to get in to the very few markets that they have to date. If you folks here in Canada want quality outdoor programs harrass the snot out of your cable and sat service providers. Please! derf Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati

Sheldon, I don't even have a TV (I really have far better things to do with my time), but to show you just how much I like this project, I'm willing to offer my services as co-host! I can shoot straight and can bullshit with the best of 'em!

Congradulations! I'd actually like to see hunts filmed in southern portions of the provinces. Southern B.C, Alberta, ontario, etc. If you ever come down to my neck of the woods, I could send you in a couple places around the baldass prairie for gophers and coyotes. Whitetail and mule deer. In the mountains for moose and elk. Etc. If you get eaten by one of the many grizzlies the government says doesn't exist in Alberta, your on your own! Hey Omega. What show do you currently have running on TOC? How about the one on Wild TV? I have to admit, I'm pretty green with TV production. I will be the host, but I am relying on the executive producer and financiers to do the rest. Naturally we will be involved with marketing.... I've got lots of offers for help it seems. I can tell you all this, if I could afford to do it all for free, I would. I really cannot believe my good fortune. I get to work in one of the greatest, friendliest industries around with the best people in the world. I get to think and talk hunting and shooting all day and get paid for it. Now I get to hunt as part of my work too. I have to thank God for all the blessings that keep coming my way. I don't know what I did exactly to get on his good side, because even though I've tried, I haven't always made the right choices. I owe a LOT to my clients too. I wouldn't have gotten far without their trust and loyalty. I'll let you know how things pan out as we get closer to actual shoot dates. Got lots of hunts planned but I still have some that I am personally goinhg to chase down. I like my rifles but I love my TC Omega ML and I love my bow too. Come to think of it, my black lab puppy will be coming home in a few weeks, and I think I need to find a way to get my puppy and my kids on more hunts. They are all too cute to leave out of the mix. The show is The Outdoor Quest (Now Outdoor Quest Television) and we are running old shows on Wild TV as no one in Canada has seen them yet! You never answered my question I might know the fella....

quote: Truly you are blessed, the only paid hosts I know of in the industry have second jobs (country singing and playing football come to mind). Seriously, I couldn't name another paid host - every other shmoe is like me, have to pay for the show to host it. Don't let go of that opportunity! My wife Sandi loves her Omega also:

Hey, Sheldon, You have my interest peaked, who is your producer friend? I know what you mean about kids. Below is a picture of my youngest Jake and his first moose with a ML. He used my Omega and a 250 grain SST over 150 grains of Pyrodex pellets to kill this little bull. Called him out on camera and got the entire sequence - it made a nice show.
