+1 on Fred Webb. We three hunters all took B&C musk oxen in the spring of 2005. The event is less of a "hunt" than it is an experience. One can't possibly prepare for -40F! Don't scrimp on the cold weather clothing.....

Zhaba,

You will spend $1500-1000 on hunting gear for the March hunts through Cabelas (Iditarod line), Northern Outfitters or the Canadian company I can't remember the name of.

Fall hunts can be hunted wearing clothing that will keep you warm to -10 F, regular North American, Kiwi, Europe, Asian Winter-Late Fall hunting clothes.

IE:

Boots one pair leather gore tex
boots one pair rubber or neoprene knee height
wool ski socks (or similar) 8-10 days worth
capilene long underwear 2 sets tops and bottoms
gore tex or windstopper jacket shell
polar fleece jacket
polar fleece pants (for non-windy days)
gore tex or windstopper pants (for windy days)
polar fleece or wool watch cap
ski type gloves.

If you didn't have everything on the list you could probably buy enough close outs at your local ski or hunting shop in the Spring to get you buy really well for the hunt $200-500 depending on how fancy you went.

Zhaba,

Sounds like you have altrady got some info on some hunts.

In 2000 I went with an outfit called High Arctic Lodge. This outfit was operated by a fellow named Fred Hamilton. Basically you get yourself to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut and then he flies you in to a place called Merkley Lake on Victoria Island just north of there.

To say that this hunt was a success would be an understatement. I killed a 85"+ bull muskox on the second morning. Not only did I connect on a great muskox but I got to spend the rest of the week fishing. This place holds huge lake trout and arctic char and is world class.

The beauty of this hunt is that it usually takes place in the aug/sept timeframe, so the cold weather gear that you would normally associate with a hunt like this is not required. GoreTex is a must and bring clothes that would prepare you for -10 to -15 and you would have no worries. For the most part these hunts are based out of his main camp where you hunt out of boats and cruise the many bays and glass for the muskox. Once you find the bull to your liking you stalk on foot across the tundra.

Ive hunted Zimbabwe with Roger Whittal Safaris twice, Alaska, extensively over western canada and the northwestern states and can say that this is a great hunt that I would highly recommend.

Zimbabwe 1995
Nunavut 2001
Zimbabwe 2005
Alaska 2008
Alaska 2009
Namibia 2012

Thanks Guy's thats a great help.I have been hunting Zim for the last few years its so addictive but I have always wanted to hunt these critters they would look cool next to the cape buff.I will look up that lodge thanks Tim and see what they offer. The biggest drama for us downunder is costs. Its a major expense just getting there and back ( not to mention exchabge rates)so I am looking for an outfitter that can come up with good trophies basic lodgings and a feed I/we don't need five star everything just want to hunt good animals.cheers

Zhaba,

Lodging? it is going to be a tent or a plywood shelter on a windswept pile of rocks.

Food? Going to be boiled anything, Eskimos like to boil meat. Geese skulls are meat!

There are some good outfitters for muskox and some bad ones, I suggest you contact a guy named Brent Sinclair he owns Trophy Hunt America a booking company and Porcupine Creek Outfitters in Alberta Canada.
He has personally guided several hunts for Muskox and is one of the best guys I know of to find you a quality hunt.
He took Capt.Bob a member of AR on a hunt last March and they killed a B&C bull and a white wolf
