Personally as a citizen of the USA I am tired of travel in Canada an being charged the in USD ($). Saturday's rate was right around 32%. Are there any outfitters giving the current rate of exchange on trips? Why are Americans expected to accept one rate for a hunt an another for Canadians?

Um, all the species we have here are available in US aren’t they? Why the desire to hunt in Canada over the US then? FYI, it’s called capitalism, if a large majority of your compatriots were not willing to pay the prices then the outfitters wouldn’t be doing it. I agree it’s not right, but that’s they system! PS it is hard on us that the eastern Canada cabals elect gov’s that devalue our economy through their policies. Less than 4 years ago our dollar was on par and above the US dollar.

when you get near the border there are lots of "sharpies" that take advantage of the exchange rates

Most consultants and outfitters world wide selling hunts quote in USD. Has advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side if you are comparing hunt costs of different countries it's easy if all quote the same currency. With the current strength of the USD I suggest, where possible and appropriate, a little negotiation might be worthwhile. It can work if both parties are prepared to be reasonable but a good hunt will still not become cheap. Outfitting is risky and guys have to make a living. Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

That is pure BS! In fact the business is risky I agree 100% but gouging is wrong on both sides of the border. If a product sells for a set price that is the price no matter which currency it is paid for in. If a U.S. citizen were to pay in CAD rather than USD should they not expect to pay the same amount?

Any business has risk. However, anytime I have ever made a USD cash purchase in a Canadian store or gas station, for examples, they have always charged me the Canadian rate. Cash registers in many Canadian establishments have a button they push if customer is paying with USDs that converts the purchase amount based on exchange rate.

Do a Google for hunting outfitters across Canada, not booked thru a U.S. booking agent, look at many of their rates page an you will see prices quoted in USD. I have a close friend living in Edmonton we decided to make a moose hunt in BC. we each contacted the same 6 outfitters he was quoted a price in Canadian currency while I was quoted prices in USD....as of Saturday that was 32% higher. He booked for both of us and paid in CAD for deposits I will have $converted prior to traveling next year paying the balance in CAD.

A lot of out fitters do charge Canadians in Canadian dollars. For example. A Bison hunt in Alberta $6000 US $10000 Canadian for the same hunt. I’ve paid the Rates in US dollars for all my out of province hunt buT for one Member NRA, NFA,CSSA,DSC,SCI,AFGA

Doc, are you saying your Canadian friend was quoted a certain price in CAD while you, as a USA citizen, were quoted the exact same figure in USD...?? If that's the case then no disagreement...I would consider that uncalled for gouging. I would think honest operators would give you the option of paying in either CAD or USD with a figure calculated appropriately on the current exchange rate, and on this basis the USD figure should be lower than a CAD figure currently. What has got up my nose a little with some Canadian operators is quoting hunt prices in USD but saying in the fine print they reserve the right to convert required payments to CAD should the CAD become the stronger currency. It hasn't been a problem however as I avoided booking with anyone with that contract condition. Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

Hunts world wide are pretty universally priced in US dollars. If it was priced in Canadian dollars it would be 30% higher just as if South African hunts were priced in rand they'd be 1200% higher. Canada is a different country with a different currency...just as South Africa is. Just because we both call them dollars doesn't mean they are the same. It just happens the US dollar is the universal hunting currency.

Yes that is exactly what I am saying he was quoted 7500 CAD I was quoted $7500 USD (32% higher) I called back to the outfitter to question this an was told take it or leave it...I left it.

When I need Canadian funs I go to wal-mart make a small purchase hand then a 100.00 bill and get the change back at the current rate. Funny story about the last time I did this in June of this year. I brought a 7.00 CAD bag of candy bars. I handed the young gal the 100 US it was obvious the she had not done a US currency transaction before. She called a supervisor over to show her how. Her eyes got big when she handed be back the change as it was well more than 100.00 CAD. I haven't seen any of the Canadian out fitters here quote any thing but USD. I am always looking for one the gives the hunt in Canadian dollars. I would have not problem paying with Canadian dollars but so far I haven't seen one. There are many good online currency calculators out there that give the current exchange rate for any currency.
