hi everyone, i"m applying for the non-resident moose draw again(i was unsuccessful last year), and if i get a ticket i would like to bring my .308. i"m a UK resident, but i hunted in New Brunswick(which is where i want to hunt moose) in 96 and 97, so i should be exempt from hunter"s ed. does anyone know the proceedure for bringing a rifle and ammo into NB? i think 97 was the last year anyone could hunt with an unregistered rifle, but i"m out of touch now. do i need a tempary fac, or can i register my rifle on arrival? i e-mailed the DNR for NB, but i"ve recieved no reply so far. also has anyone an opinion on ammo for moose in .308? i was thinking 180-200grns, but i like hornaday sst"s at 180grns(i know it"s a bit premature, without having a moose ticket, but we have to have something to look forward to or we"d all go crazy! i hope i get drawn, i miss the Red Green show!

The best thing to do is contact the canadian fire arms center directly at www.cfc.gc.ca or e-mail them at canadian.firearms@justice.gc.ca The 308 would be anough rife in NB. A good 180gr is good medicane for moose. The 180gr SST should hold up at 308 velocities. I miss hunting in B.C.

thanks sirwilliam! i just looked up the firearms center, and it answered my question on importation. it looks like i can download the form and declare my shootin" iron on arrival. i borrowed rifles over there before, but it"s hard to beat the confidence you get behind your own gun! i did"nt make it to Nova Scotia when i was in NB, although i wanted to. i have an uncle in NS with the military, maybe i should send more Christmas cards....
