I am sure this subject has been brought up many times before here, but after I searched the forum, the newest thread I found was 2008, so I want to be sure I am getting current information. I am doing some bird hunting in Ontario next month, and I wanted to make sure I do this right. What forms do I need to get my guns across the border and back? I am taking 2 shotguns, both 12-gauges if that makes any difference. Any special advice for the airport (should 2 hours before my flight leaves be sufficient time to get through customs, etc.)? Any help you folks could give me would be appreciated!

Some US Customs agents will want to see a completed US form 4457 upon your return to the States. List your guns and optics on it and have a US agent verify it prior to leaving the USA. Print out the form from the 'net. That way some prick US agent cannot accuse you of having purchased these expensive items outside USA and try to require duty payment.

Are identical guage shotguns (or even identical rifle calibers) allowed; or do they have to be different guages/calibers (similar to many African countries)?

Thanks,
Pete

No issue there as long as they qualify as non-restricted.

Ive found its harder to get back into the US than into Canada. Just fill out and as already mentioned DONT sign the form.

The US form is nice to have already filled out but not required prior to returning. It can be done at the border it's just slower. I found out on my last trip this spring that once completed the US form can be reduced down in size and laminated so you can carry it in your wallet for future trips.

Second that. If guns lusted on the US 4457 form are the same in a future out of USA trip, the form is still good. Done that.
