I remember reading some posts a while back about who to contact at the Ministry and how to get an old DUI problem washed off for travel and admittance into Canada.
Anyone know the details or can help me find that old post?
Second part of the question, please give me a quick brush up on travelling by auto to and through Canada with firearms (hunting rifles). All travel will be to B.C. no other provinces.
Thanks for the help.

Over the years I've lost several clients to this silly set-up over past charges ranging back to 20 years. Anyway, a recent client (turned down) has provided me with this new number that is apparently the best to call and receive an explanation. It's Border Info Services at 1-403-344-3766. To cross into Canada, you just need a completed import form and $25. If you firearms are cased and triggerlocked, you should be safe anywhere in the country for travel. ~Arctic~

Yea these charges are a pain. I had a DUI 20 yrs ago and it can still cause me problems getting into the States, it goes both ways. A Canadian pardon is a huge pain in the ass and takes years to accomplish, even for a lowly DUI. Even at that a Canaddian pardon isn't recognized by the Americans and you still need to go through their process of "forgiveness"

I second what calgarychef1 has to say. A drunken brawl a decade ago and visiting the USA becomes more trouble than its worth. Does it have to be this way?

The CFC has nothing to do with it. They're just clerks.
Go here for your DUI issue. Cheap it ain't. $200Cdn that MUST be paid WITH the application.http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/applications/rehabil.html
Go here for the synopsis of our laws for visitors. http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/factsheets/visitin_e.asp
Going south is no big deal. I got dinged for 'Over 80' about 17 years ago. Had no problem getting a FAST card.
A Canadian pardon takes a year and costs $50, depending on how long ago. Those places who do the paperwork for you charge $500Cdn.

Spelling and grammar count.

Thanks for all the great information.
Just so I am clear on this, is it a fact that a DUI will affect or prevent an American from entering Canada?

Yes, and if they don't catch it when you cross, a couple of days later they may come looking for you at an outfitter's camp, even if they have to charter aircraft! Immigration takes it seriously even if the rest of us laugh at it!

Ok, so here's the reverse question. Where do Canadians apply with the Americans to obtain permission for entry?
