| What WMU will you be hunting?I ask because the weather is quite variable depending on how close to the mountains you will be.I live one hour south and west of Calgary and often the weather is quite different here than what is happening in Calgary.Once I know generally where you will be hunting I will try to find out what you could expect.Generally fairly reliably expect a snowfall by Oct.31st.A friend hunting in WMU 406 connected on his bull moose yesterday.Tail end of the rut. |

| Hi Joe. Temperatures in and around Edmonton right now are just around freezing overnight, no snow as of yet. West of us there is a little snow, depending on where you are, and temps are about 5 to 10 degrees colder. There is a call for rain/snow over the next three days, and there should be a little more in the foothills to the west, if we're lucky. Bring waterproof boots, as we haven't had a good freeze yet. - Dan |

| I am about 4 1/2 hours north of Edmonton. We have snow on the ground currently but I expect to see that go because I believe the temps are supposed to rise a little. Temps during the day is around 34 degrees F and at night around 28 degrees F. It usually is pretty cool around the Halloween season but not too much snow. I went moose hunting last week and shot one on the 19 of October. I believe the rut has been a little slow and I called in 2 of them so I think calling will still work well. I will include a picture. Good Luck hunting. Greg berneticg@shaw.ca |

| Hi Greg, I think I recognise you from some place. You are a mate of Jims' from Calgary right? Predatormasters. Could you tell me a bit about that moose you have there, is he a representative specimen of what we should expect in the foothills around the Lodgpole/Cynthia area? What's this you say about calling due to the rut being slow? It might still work? I'll be leaving the day after tomorrow and I'm already thinking about it most of the night instead of sleeping. |

| Hi Joe. They're calling for 25 cm (10 inches) of snow tonight. That should help you out a bit. - Dan |

| I live about 20 minutes from Lodgepole and Cynthia. It's snowing right now and will continue all night but only supposed to get about 6 inches.
As far as trophy moose in that area, I wouldn't get my hopes up too high. There are some fifty inch bulls but they are few and far between, keep your eyes peeled for a big whitetail though, if you have a tag? |

| Well, this might not be good for my reputation. I didn't know that people were associating me with Jim. I will have to relocate now and give myself a new name. I will be honest here. I really don't know that area that well. I have fished and camped around there and seen some decent bulls but I really don't have enough experience there. If you are going with a guide, trust what he says. As for the rut. I believe it is going a little slow this year. Again, my personal opinion. As for calling. I know of people that have shot a lot of moose and say that calling after the first week of October is useless but I say hogwash. I called in that moose and another one came in besides him. I also heard a couple of different cows calling the evening I shot him. It is starting to get cold here now. They are forcasting for a bit of snow on the foothills were you will be going. About 10 to 30 centimetres which should be perfect. I really hope that you take a prize on your trip and have some good memories. Good luck, Greg berneticg@shaw.ca |

| A Bull such as that shown in the picture above is very possible here. We got about 6 inches of snow last night and it should hold into next week anyway. Good luck. |

| Whatever the temperature it cannot be as bad as Winnipeg. That's the only place I know of where people actually jump into burning buildings. I went there one year in August for an Indian festival, and they actually had frost. Can you believe it? Best wishes.

| Express is on his way home, he got a small bull on the last day of his hunt. The weather was about 6-10 degrees below seasonal temperatures (meaning that much below freezing during the day, in celcius, and about -16 to -20 at night). I'll let him tell the story of his hunt when he gets back on line. I had the pleasure of meeting him and his hunting partner, very nice people. - Dan |
