My brother and I are very experienced do it yourself hunters, have done numerous hunts of all types. We are looking for a 2007 Caribou hunt with large trophy potential, drop camp is okay, guided is okay if it is in the price range.
What outfitters, areas or flight services can you all recommend.
Thanks

Murf,

When is the best time to hunt caribou in Canada? Late August or late September? When does winter start over in the area your friend hunted?

A friend and his wife did a neet hunt some years back. The drove to Yellowknife in the Northwest territory of Canada. Then had a float plane fly them to a lake with a canoe and camping gear. They paddled and floated out of the lake and down river for several days. Caught fish and scouted caribou along the way. Ended up at an outfitters camp where they hunted Centeral Barren Ground Caribou. They had a pretty good idea by then what a really big bull looked like. the fellow shot a good bull and when the guide suggested his wife take a bull, they said no, as they knew there were bigger bulls around. A day or two later she took one that went high up in the B&C book. They tradded in their canoe and camping gear to the outfitter (this had been arranged before hand) and left by float plane with meat and trophies.

Now that would be a really great hunt.

Robin down under.

My friend was there couple weeks ago. His hunt started about Aug 26 or so. Winter can come early in that area and I believe the camp shuts down around the 28 of Sep't. I am not sure if the date is because of winters arrival or the caribou having passed this area durring their migration.

The web site has details and lots of pics and testimonials. There are quite a few camps that offer similar packages. The reason i posted this one is because i know the manager.

"...guided is okay..." Required for non-residents in most places. Go here. http://www.fapaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/index.htm

Spelling and grammar count.
