Wondering if anyone has heard of reports of CWD infected deer in the area of Lloydmininster. I recently heard rumor of such. I hope it is not true, and just a lot of BS, seems really far north.

Many Thanks

I think it Alberta Outdoorsmen where I read about it. Seems there was a case by mount joy and they are going to clean the area out.

that's all I know

"clean the area out" what do you take that to mean? It doesn't go from one deer to another.

CWD is from being bittin by a midge that dies with the first or second frost. That had to be a long time back.

Many Thanks

Well I think your midge theory isn't shared by the biologists. When they're done that area aint gonna have many deer left. Tis a shame I grew up in Lloydminster. we actually jumped a 4x4 off the mount joy ski jump.

cheers

Thanks for the link, and the info. Much of what I read on the Alberta site is different, than want we have been told reguarding the transfer from one deer to another. For sure there have been cases several years back, and I had never heard of it before just recently. Truly a shame anywhere it occurs.

Many Thanks

Where did you hear about the midge bite theory?

I think that these culls will soon get out of hand. Im sure CWD is far more widespread than anyone knows about. Especially if it can be dormant for years.

I just realized, my confusion what I am thinking of is EHD. That is the midge bite born sickness. In the mid west US when that first reared its head they thought of Blue tonuge. Found most effected deer near water. It showed up in PA this last summer. Spotty in effect some areas saw die off, 10 miles away little or no afflicted deer found. 20 miles farther it showed up again.

Bullet Proof,

I agree, where are they going to stop or start.

Many Thanks

It seems pretty radical all right. But I can't help think about what it would do if it became wide spread. Too bad they can't keep the bad ones in Sask. they encourage deer farming and using bait for hunting they can keep their damned diseased animals.

you see that spot with all the red dots...Edgerton, well that is where I live. I have hunted that area, to the north and west of town, for 35 years, since I was 14. Last year they shot from choppers, snowmobiles, trucks, and on foot, over 600 deer....Their numbers....both whitetail and Mulies. There were some awesome bucks taken CRYBABY They, F & W, would not let us take pictures, even though they used the oilfield leases we check.
I would imagine that the area around Mount Joy will be handled the same.
With all that, we had more positive tests, which means more "culling". I can tell you, there will be quite a few farmers, good idea or bad, who will not allow the Fish Cops on their land.
As to where to start and stop, well they sure don't want CWD to reach Base.(Camp Wainwright) So I can see a full on blitz, as you can see by looking at the map, we are close.

I have heard some won't eat the venison from here, but between my son and I over the last five years, have taken seven deer from 'The Red Dot' area, and eaten every bit of them. As long as you don't eat brain or spinal fluid, that is.

However this is taken care of, I hope they get it wiped out soon....my grandson will be hunting in six years!
