Well, my old buddy Tucker and I were out for a week of "moosing." We packed in about 3 miles of hell and camped-then did morning and afternoon hunts. We saw incredible country, absolutely gorgeous. We were in on moose three times if I remember right and very close to getting one. Unfortunately it crossed buddies scent trail. Thems the breaks I guess. It would have been so easy with rifles. It didn't work out, but we'll go back for day trips next week. I think they might not be in full rut yet as we only had one that was really interested in coming in. The rest hung back and just grunted at us. We had a grizzly in camp and today tucker called in a .......Cougar!!! Very cool. We saw many, many ruffed grouse. Wednesday I had to hike out to go to work for one day, and of course on the way out I got toatlly F****ing lost. I ended up on the other side of the mountain and on the other side of the river. Thought my map was back at camp, but I just found it while cleaning the day pack. So I had to walk an exra four miles or so and was rushed to get out before dark. A few good lessons learned- "stay found" which I can never do since I'm "directionally challenged " I never venture anywhere though without the necessary stuff to stay overnight in the bush, so it wouldn't have had a bad ending.

happy hunting

Hey Chef

Sounds like time to invest in a GPS. I have the similar problem. Not so much as getting lost. More like not being able to find those great little honey holes that I stumble across. A year goes by and I can't find my way back to them.

Hope you stay found the rest of the season.

I have a gps....and I did end up using it. I just knew that if I kept walking I would come out within a mile or so of the trail I needed to be on. A gps is ok but if you're on the wrong side of the mountain it only points over the top Razzer I'd rather have gone around it than over it.

cheers
