I have been a director with SCI BC for about 2 years now, and the organization has grown and has a mission towards conservation. There are many projects that we will be involved with this year, including a Grizzly census, and a anti poaching champagne. Guys we are talking to the government in these regards! They are becoming aware of us in our support of conservation, and as one that is supportive of the plea to conserve and protect our environment. Come on guys! We all know that there are important issues that are being discussed on a daily basis that could affect our hunting in the future. We all remember the bear that was found drifting off Vancouver Island last year without its gall bladder and paws. The first remarks that were aired. A hunter illegally shot this bear. We all know what that means, and what light this puts us as hunters in. SCI supports all type of hunting, not just BIG 5 African Safari, it also supports the deer hunter that goes out and hunts his black bear or deer behind the Squamish chief on weekends. Us as hunters need a voice in BC, and SCI is willing to be that voice, but this all costs. As an effort to increase the membership, SCI is putting on a draw system, a 7 day hunting trip to Africa hosted by my company Mabelingwane . Please dont think this is not a advertising champagne for the outfitter, but more of champagne to support hunting in BC. I live in Vancouver now, and would love to see resources still available to my kids one day when they decide to start hunting. Contact me if you are willing to commit to membership, I chalange you to try it for 1 year. I would also like to know your feelings on this issue, and if I am wasting my time, I dont mind negative issues, so that we as an organization can know what is going on out there and how we will be mapping out the way ahead. We need your help guy's. For all our sakes. < !--color--> SCI BC

No disrespect intended, but BCWF serve the purpose quite well... I've toyed witht he idea of SCIBC for a few years, and I know that several AR guys here are members, but I haven't been convinced about it's usefulness in BC...yet!

Quote: No disprespect taken, Gatehouse thanx for your honest opinion, and I agree 100% that BCWF is doing a great job. Quote: We will be putting ourselves on the map very soon. The focus that we have and the push forward will be a hard one, but there are a hand full of guys willing and commited to do it.

I guess my question would be this: Why don't you put your efforts into the BCWF instead? It seems we have so many organizations that do the same thing, and I wonder if the resources aren't wasted at times, with duplication in the different groups. What is SCI BC's mandate herei n BC? Thanks for taking time to answer my questions.

You know Clarke,I've hunted with a past president of the BCWF(name withheld for obvious reasons)for the past 14 years and know one of the founding members(and first president of the FED),and I'm a proud member and supporter of the organization but I believe that we could use another big voice to speak to government for us.We don't have that many BIG voices to speak for us in BC at this time.I've disagreed with several major issues and stands that the BCWF has taken over the years and I'll probably disagree with more as the years go by(ie,the proposed liscencing of ATV's for off road use in BC )Whatever you think,SCI should probably speak for good of the majority of the outdoorsmen in BC as the Fed has for years. You can never have too many friends.Especially when you're dealing with government!I doubt that I'll join SCI but I wish them the best here in BC and hope that we'll be kept posted on their progress. SCI has about 29,000 members in the United States. With that number in a country of 250,000,000 it is the most politiaclly powerful and respected organization for hunters rights in the country. SCI testifies and makes recommendations on every bill and regulation regarding Hunting in the US at the Federal level. At the State level Chapters in every state are politically active and help fund and support candidates and laws favourable to hunters. In Washington, the SCI Chapters are extremely active and have a large amount of input in State matters. This is done because of involvement and effort. Not the effort that let's someone else do the work but the effort that says every hunter needs to pitch in. Get involved or give up. There is no middle ground.

I hope you guys don't get the impression I am AGAINST SCI- far from it.. When I speak of duplications in organizations, I'm talking about our gun groups- there are amillion of them, all splintered, with resources getting split. Imagine if we had one group like the NRA? There ar eonly so many hunters in BC that wish to join the BCWF, and I wonder if there will be enough to support a SCI chapter. That's all... I guess I like to play the devils advocate. I do the same thing with anyone that wants me to join a group, or to donate money to them, whether it is for conservation or any other issue BTW Dave the ATV proposal and the GOABC/Packer issue both were shot down, among other things..
