I know you have to have a plug in your shotgun while hunting, but do I have to have it while target shooting? (Ie. Skeet)?

I can't imagine why you would.

In Ontario, we're restricted even when deer hunting with slugs - the MNR thinks we're not smart enough to realize its removeable if they permit us to hunt with it in place in all situations.

The Ontario MNR regulates hunting of provincial regulated species, and the federal government covers migratory game, but neither of these Acts regulate target shooting.

There wasn't anything about this in my firearms course, and some of the western boys tell me they can hunt big game with slugs in an un-plugged scattergun.

I can't see how it would be regulated unless by a local club for shooting on their ranges.

Well, we skeet shoot on our own land (Not far from you actually) So it wouldnt be range rules. I'm just making sure (3 rounds in a shotgun is no fun when shooting lots of skeet). I dont wanna get nailed for something so trivial is all, as the conservation officers come over sometimes when they hear lots of shooting.

I use a Model 12 while prospecting in BC. It has a long forcing cone and a defender length barrel with no choke. The standard magazine allows me 7 in the mag and a noise maker in the chamber. It only carries slugs and home rolled buck and is with me weather or not it is hunting season. To date I have not had any problems with this carrying practice. derf

Ah, but have you ever been stopped by a fish cop and checked? Wink

BTW, I don't think I'd carry a "noise maker" round in the chamber. A live one would make noise too, and could double for a thumper if needed.

Provided your shotgun isn't a semi, you can have a 100 shot mag if you want. If it is, three's the limit as per federal law. When hunting game birds, you are only allowed three as well. For back packing in bear country, or just plain packing a scattergun in the bush, no mag restrictions on your pump. same goes for clays or whatever. Good shooting.

Semi auto shotguns are limited by law to a 5 round magazine.

So they can be loaded to 5+1.

Manual repeaters can have as many shells as you want.

When hunting, consult your provincial regs for the limit of shells you can have. Big Grin

I have an amm can with 100 reloaded 12 ga rounds in it. Man, I will be danged if I am going to carry around that much extra weight with this banged up old body! thumbdown
The idea to a light trap load for a noise maker is to warn off a critter at longer distances, like say 50 yds or so,when they aren't aggressive but not leaving quick enough. I don't really want to execute an animal for just going about their business. If things were to go south in a hurry, I have been around long enough to handle it with the other 7 shots if need be.
