I want to plan a black bear hunt in 2010 for my 24 year old son and I. I don't even know if I want to hunt in Canada or Alaska. I think I want to hunt over bait. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Jeffs

I heard good things about these companies when I lived in Canada:

link1 <-- I think this one would give you the best chance of a bear in other than black phase, can be very striking!) This company has been in business for more than 30 years.

link2

With both outfitters you may also be able to shoot a wolf if you want to.

Alberta has LOTS of big bears!

Hi Jeffs

Seven of us just got back from a Black Bear Hunt in Northern Saskatchewan with 6 of us killing bears and 1 hit a bear but couldn't find it. We went with an outfitter called Northern Echo Lodge located on Lake Wapawekka just south of Lake LaRonge. It was the greatest time I have ever had. The Outfitter and guides were great and the accomadations were excellant. We fished every morning then hunted over baits in the evening. My bear was a 19 11/16 Boar. PM me and I will email you all the info if you are interested.

Have a great day

I have hunted BC for black bears more times that I can remember and have hunted with 7 different guide/outfitter and with out a doubt Bob Dunlop who operates North Anzac Guides and Outfitters is and has been the best hunts I have been on. I am a bit biased because I have hunted with Bob exclusevily for black bears for the past 5 years, but to date EVERY hunt has brought home at lease one bear - most hunts 2, and the smallest bear I have taken with Bob has squared 6"2". Her runs a first class operation, has tons of bears in his area and will work his ass off to get you a large boars. He does not like to take bears under 6.5" and most will go home with a 7'. Plus just about every time I have been up there I had opportunities at a wolf - too bad I can hit on of them bastards to save my life!
