I know that this isn't a big moose by some standards, but he's plenty big for me. I got this guy on Oct. 7, in Geraldton, Ontario. Hunt was over by 8:10 am. I was in a big bay by myself, and about daybreak, I saw what I thought was a big tree stump at the other end of the bay. Put my binoculars on it, and it still looked like a tree stump. Looked away, and when I looked back, he lifted his head and - HOLY $HIT! I gps'd the spot I was in last year and found that the moose was between me and there, about 500 yards. So, I started stalking toward it, stopping when it lifted it's head and going when it was feeding. It continued to feed toward me. Took me about 15 min. to cover 250 yards, and then there was a tree in the water that I couldn't climb over or go around, for noise. Good thing it took that long, too, because it gave me a chance to calm down! So, I decided this was it. He was continuing to feed toward me, so I found a good spot, sat down and waited until he turned his left shoulder quartering to me. First shot was on the point of his shoulder. He jumped and turned back, facing right to me, so I held my second shot to see if he would turn and I could hammer him again. As I watched in the scope, he started to teeter, then fell over, and it was done. Shot was 195 yards. 300 H&H, 180 gr. bullet. Dave heard me whoop all the way across the lake. When he brought the guys, I said "Remember the movie Jaws? We're gonna need a bigger boat!" 52" rack. The four quarters weighed 633 lbs. at the butcher. Lotsa meat.

If you find you don't want it, I think I could find a rec-room to hide the head in Good Job! --------------------------------- It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it

Wannabe, Nice moose! Lots of good eating too!! How about that 300 H&H, not bad for an old, outdated, obsolete, has been, anchient, under powered, out classed caliber. ;-) Do you load your own? What bullet were you using? Congrats, Bill aka 300h&h My insurance company? Why Holland & Holland of course!

Yeah, don't ya just hate those underpowered things. It gets worse, too. The rifle was one of those crappy old Pre-64 Winchesters. Nothin' but crowbars, those. And, to top it off, I used an inferior boolit - 180 gr. Hornady and just 66 gr. of IMR 4350. Who cares that it can shoot into MOA if it doesn't have any swat when it gets to the target? Ended up in the off-side ribs. 126 gr. retained weight. I guess I'm just lucky that Bullwinkle didn't grab this POS and beat me to death with it.
