Sorry folks I was going to post earlier but I forgot! At the calgary archery center is an elk calling seminar tonight, July 24. Cost is 10 bucks.

A quick report on the seminar. It was awesome the caller was Rocky Jacobson who is a world record caller etc etc. He really put on a good seminar and the Archery Center kicked in with some good prices on some of Rocky's products. Since it's my birthday tomorrow I loaded up!!

And how am I suppossed to know that? Razzer

I only seriously chased moose once, with a bow hunter, and that was outside the rut.

I used a Cabelas gift certificate that I had lying around, and ordered a DVD and a call; maybe we can sit on the porch one night and liven up the neighbourhood a bit! clap

hoo boy that would be some real red-neck fun!!! I came home and tried out my elk call, my youngest daughter went into wails of terror. I might not have the elk thingy figured out yet.

My daughters can do a moose call though.

take care

Watched the DVD... some Southern boy, telling about his (bow) hunts, and his call, pretty boring really. I get the impression that it's easier to mimick the call without any aids, that with the 'horn' that came with the DVD.

We should get together before the season really starts, maybe when Scruffy takes us out for pigeon, you can start unloading all those years of moose hunting experience! clap

Anyway, also got a coyote calling DVD, which I will watch and use to drive Grizzly Adams crazy when he tries to call me in a coyote this winter. Big Grin

"You now, Grizz, on the DVD I watched they never used a snowshoe hare call when the humidity was above 40%. I bet you didn't check humidity before we left, did you?"

I'd agree you don't need a moose call. Any kind of megaphone or not can work. I just use my hands, seems to work. I think calling moose in heavily hunted areas is pretty futile, seems they may have heard too many fake girlfriends and are a little shy!! I'm tied up this week and weekend looking after the kids while the wife is away at the lesbians ahem I mean womens weekend. The following week would be ok to fling some pointy sticks. By the way I used to call coyotes too, you're going to have a blast with Grizz. Be prepared for anything, I called in a lynx once.
