We are leaving on a hunt in Southern Saskatchewan next week and I am wondering if I can pick up a 4457 on the American side of the border before we cross over into Canada with our weapons. If not, I need to drive to our local customs two hours away.

Thank you.

We are driving to Saskatchewan...only about a nine hour drive for us. Can I get the 4457 at the American side of the border crossing?

4457 will only let you bring your weapons back into the U.S.A. from Canada, not take them accross the border.

If you stop on the US side you can declare yor firearms and get that form, as long as the office is open (which it should be). You will still need a Canadian Firearms form to enter Canada. They have those at their entry and there is a fee for it. There is no fee for the 4457 and it lasts for life. Make sure you have passports too now. Have a good hunt.

What Wade said is correct. If the border crossing site is open then customs will be there so you can get your form. If it is not open then customs won't be and you won't be crossing anyway until it does. The Canadian Form is easy but it will cost a few dollars.
