How are you fellow Albertan's making out this year? Have been hunting 342 and 340 since Sept and have seen about 20 does and only 3 bucks. One thing i have noticed is no wolf sign in my area of 342 which was over run with wolves and they were coexisting fine with what seemed like an abundance of whitetail last year. I saw 9 wolves last year on different occasions and would always here them howling in the evenings with lots of physical sign all around.

This year the deer numbers seem to be way down and the wolf packs have moved out. Very difficult season for sure. Had this deer answer my grunt call last week and it was the only buck seen in three solid days of hunting. Temperatures were -26c and all the days were bright and sunny. We also only saw 12 does. Hope you all fare well and have a safe season. Very difficult year.....

Lots of does in our area but the rut seems really slow to kick in. We've only seen two bucks so far in November. Hopefully the last week is better. We've got enough does around that it should be!

Thanks for chiming in TJ. The better half has her general tag left and i am thinking the later the better in regards to her downing a decent buck as it does seem slow. Hope you and Vanessa are having a good season..... Mark

Leverboy - great job and a really nice older buck. My father was out today and had a buck chasing a doe but couldn't get a shot. I think with last winters cold weather and snow the wolves in our area ate when ever they wanted to and I know they are still around as my father heard them tonight in the distance. We will be trapping like crazy for them this year!!

What rifle set up were you using?

Thanks

Well AR, its an elcheapo Savage 111 in .30-06 i bought at the local Cabelas used gun rack. Slapped some paint and a cheap scope rail on it and a Burris E1 i found on a buy and sell. 56 grains of H4350 pushing the 168 grain Nosler Balistic tip. Its just under 2700 fps and i settled on what i call a decent " hunting group" Definitley not a fancy rig but its my paint and my handload. Which makes it a little more fun!!

Good deal and the customizing of your rifle with your own hands must enhance your experience, nicely done!
