Applied for our temporary firearm export permits online on Saturday and had them back this afternoon. Less than one working day....now that is service. | ||

Same for me last fall. Applied only line Sunday and 8 am Monday it was in my inbox. I'm not too impressed though as all that has to happen is someone has to click approved after checking that we have included required paperwork since we fill out all the info. | |||

Mine took less then 24 hours once all the paperwork was in Member NRA, NFA,CSSA,DSC,SCI,AFGA | |||

When I applied for my export permits to go to South Africa two years ago I got the rifle permit back in 6 days - pretty good service. It took 6 weeks to get the permit for the scope and ammunition, and I had to call and push them for that a week before I left. There were two different people handling the permits. The woman for the rifle permit - great. The guy for the rest of the stuff, not so much. | |||

What really surprised me was when I returned to Calgary CBSA didn't want to see my permit at all, or the guns. He asked if they were unloaded. Uh Yes. He just wanted my PAL and checked that it was still valid and in a couple seconds I was on my way. If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. So what did they gov say when you sent in your return export permit without a signature from a customs officer on it??? | |||

It seems about 50/50 on the new permits whether a signature is required or not. When we went to Namibia last year no signature was required nor were we required to send it back in upon our arrival. The one we have for New Zealand this year requires a signature. | |||

My permit last fall did not list it as a requirement to send it in, in the conditions. The previous permits I had the officers wouldn't sign when I brought it up. We always insist ours gets signed. One time we received a nasty letter saying that we hadn't sent in our signed permit and they would start legal action if it wasn't received immediately. Funny thing was that we'd already sent it in. We sent it again and never heard another peep. | |||
