I think I need a new pair of boots. The rigidity seems to be gone out of the leather and they've been leaking for years. Here's my problem: my regular shoes are a size 5 1/2, my current Meindl boots a size 6, but they are the lady's version (sizes are same as men's in Europe; I think at least in the US a lady's size 6 isn't the same size as a men's size 6?) I stood in front of the rack at MEC for 10 minutes yesterday, and similar at the Coast Mountain store across the street, and what do I see? The only boots suitable for some serious backpacking, and high country hunting start at sizes 7 and up. But when I look at the lady's section, all I see is "day hikers", shoes way too light in construction to last long in the shale, and on the sharp rock. I want a full-leather boot, with a sturdy vibram sole, about the heaviest category leather boot you can find before getting into the mountaineering boots, in a size that fits me. Anybody got suggestions for a good retailer that might carry such? In Alberta. Frans (want Lowa Sheephunters, but same problem, don't come in small enough sizes) | ||

Frans: In the U.S., a man's size 6 is a ladies size 8, and a men's medium width is a woman's wide. I would try Cabella's or Recreational Equipment Incorporated for a good sturdy all-leather boot.
