Anyone know anything about this outfitter? Saw a hunt listed from them in the Cariboo / Chilcotin Region of BC (near Wells) for Grizzly and Black Bear. Will be a end of May hunt. Claim 100% success (not sure how long for) and that only 1 Grizzly is taken per year in this area. Any comments/experiences/advice very much appreciated. PM me if you would prefer. Thanks.

I guided for Golden bear before Dempsey took over the whole outfit. There were some monster Grizz along the Stikine river. He was running a beat up old 28 ft jetboat for spring grizzly hunts back then, but not sure what he is doing for bears now. They are more or less a coastal bear, with some over a thousand pounds, some not all of course. We took some nice stone sheep the year I was there as well, but in different area.

I asked at a BC forum, here is what I got: Hap's guide area is in the Swift River area and extends eastward into the Cariboo Mountains south of Barkerville. His base is just to the north of Nyland Lake and there are grizzlies in and around the lake and to the SE to Kinross' gold mine. This area is interlaced with lots of logging roads and old mining roads from the goldrush era. You are not likely to get a book bear here, but they do have some very blond colors. Woverine Mountain Outfitters (Tim Cushman) to the north of Bowron Prov. Park is another area and the bears are the same except there may be more of them. Either are congenial and I'm sure that the hunter will be successful which ever he chooses 375 Ruger- The NEW KING of the .375's!!
