A little over view of this springs bear season.

the first hunt was great with multiple 6'6" or bigger bears spotted or treed.
The hunter went home empty but did draw a little blood on a cranker.
The bear will live but the memories of the giant running by me will stay forever.

Here are couple others bears I got pictures of during Jerry's hunt.

A tough one to pass up on.

The dogs cooling off

the second hunter is from AR and was on a mission to get his first bear.

It didn't take long and his first tag was cut on a great boar.

We are now looking for something different if he is cut a second tag.
We passed up on this giant after a stalk in close for a better look.
Not many would have passed up on this bruiser.

Perhaps we will find that special Zebra bear that Blaise is looking for.

Wenesday I pick up another AR member for a 2 on 1 hunt.
Stay tuned.

That's a pig running in the first picture.

When one is looking to shoot only the biggest or some other special game animal the chances of going home empty handed is high.

I don't think I would have passed on that every nice colored phase in the tree. Nor the black one both nice bears.

Coming up to a bear bayed on the ground is a experience all on it own.

Especially in thick brush where shooting a bear can be at feet instead of yards.

Killed this one today. A great last day bear with not much more the stubs for teeth.
The perfect way to end this hunt.

This is me with the clients bear.

Doug the question brought up by sheep hunter

Do your hounds ever get tangled up with a grizzly.

The odd time. Without a decent amount of tags i try to keep them broke off.The bay ups can get a little exciting as you can't kill them.
My best dog Cookie(who is no longer here) was completely broke and i used her for a check dog.
This season with out her there have been a few races.
Dogs in general give the G-bear a lot more respect then a Black bear.

Last fall season was tough too after are two best dogs were lost. One died of lymes the other was taken out by a bear 3rd day of season.

There was a lot of un wanted chases.

Mike Wittet, all the way from South Africa had a great hunt.
Mike had dropped a lot of weight since I saw him last 16 months ago. This payed off big time as we put some miles on chasing bears.

Mikes first bear was a textbook strike chase and tree. i real nice 6 foot color phase.

Mike's second bear saw a tough chase which lasted a few hours. The last km was ugly, full of blown down trees and bushes as high as my head.
At 10 yards Mike dumped this bruiser as the dogs held him at bay.

A tough pack out but worth it in the end.

Good looking bears. Looking at all these bear hunting threads . . . wouldn't mind going after one myself one of these days, time will tell.
