Hope you all are having some spring turkey luck where ever you may be. I'm happy to say my father was able to go and was fortunate enough to get one to come to the decoys and call. We went out to one of our favorite spots today in the dark to set up for some gobblers that do frequent the area from time to time. Just as first light broke and I began the first series of calls we heard a call from only 300yrds away. Along the grassy clearing some 10 minutes later appeared a respectable tom in full strut. As he made his way into our decoys and dad in the better position he shot no more than 25yrds away bringing this nice 6.5" bearded tom to the ground! Apologies on the photos as we didn't bring the camera to the bush, lol. Hunting animals that respond to calling is one of the great pleasures I have in hunting game that one can speak to. It just adds that extra sense of accomplishment knowing you were able to communicate successfully. As a side note the tom weighed 21lbs,mmm good eating! Regards

Congrats to your father. There is a turkey season in the GHA just to the south of me but I have yet to take advantage of it as I am always way too busy with bear season. Congrats ! Dont get turkey in Africa ! What were you using bow, rifle or shotgun ? And do you take the beard and tail for trophies ? Cheers "Up the ladders and down the snakes!"

Charlie64 - we were using shotguns this time around although I was fortunate enough to get a beauty with a bow 3yrs ago and last year I got one with my shotgun. The top one I got with the bow and lower one with shotgun. These two were very mature and had beards measuring 11" & 9.5" respectively. I mounted them myself as you can probably tell but thought they turned out well considering. I have a cousin that lives in Alberta and he has the turkey slam and are all full mounts... a turkey nut I would say!!
