I would appreciate hearing from anyone currently living or working in Norman Wells or anyone who has spent much time there recently, it looks like I am going to spend a couple of weeks up there in February. You can't miss fast enough to win

What do you need to know? Although I'm in Yellowknife, I can most likely fill you in. .....Main concern this winter is "bring the long johns" ........it's been a mean one so far! ~Arctic~ A stranger is a friend we haven't met

I am mostly interested in what stores are there, what guncleaning supplies are for sale and whether the local hardware stocks things like interchangeable screwdriver bits etc. While I am there I will be doing a basic gun maintenance course and I need a feel for what is available for tools and supplies. As well I am curious about transportation to neighbouring communities Thanks You can't miss fast enough to win

I wouldn't count on finding much guncleaning supplies there, maybe the odd bottle of solvent at the Northern store.Same goes for hardware stocks. Go by Wholesale and pick up a supply of anything you think you might need and a bit extra, ..you can sell the excess when you leave. Most supplies beyond basic would have to be scrounged from the industrial suppliers. Or you order from Wolverine Sports in Yellowknife and hope they have it. If you want to travel, it's charter a plane or rent a truck and drive the ice road to a neighbouring community. In February you could, most likely, drive your own vehicle to the Wells if its a pickup. ~Arctic~ A stranger is a friend we haven't met

Yeah, that's our Guy, Ian. Headed for the great white north to teach firearms, boating, and whatever other courses the gov't requires in the armpit of nowhere (I know, I used to live there). - dan "Intellectual truth is eternally one: moral or sentimental truth is a geographic and chronological accident that varies with the individual" R.F.
