Bharal76...here are a few outfits to consider, especially if you would like to consider a combo hunt as they have very good hunting for moose and mountain caribou. https://www.firemountainoutfitters.com/about/ https://spatsizi.com/ https://www.kawdyoutfitters.com/ https://scooplake.com/ https://ggoutfitting.com/ https://www.moonlakeoutfitters.com/index.php and last but not least... https://www.lovebroslee.com/ ______________________________________________ The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who are bereft of that gift.

I’m looking to book late September 24. Does anyone have any input about goat hunting in Southern BC across the MT border? Also, any info anyone may have on outfitter Brian Larsen. I'm looking at a 2x1 10 day Horse/Backpacking hunt. I want to chase a mature Billy but have zero concern with trophy quality. The amount of outfitters is almost overwhelming.

eamyrick...as you have noticed, there are a lot of outfitters in BC that offer goat hunts. The Kootenay region has excellent goat hunting and success rates are generally very high. I do not know Brian Larsen, but you can certainly check on his outfit via GOABC and his references. I use to know a lot of outfitters in Region 4 but, as with most regions, many outfits have changed hands over the last decade. As I am sure you know, the outfitters in that region are on "quota" and resident hunters are on draw, so the goat harvest is quite closely monitored. You will find that there is a lot more access in many parts of the Kootenay's than in northern BC, so odds are you are going to see roads up most drainages, but many have road closures and restrictions on motorized transport by hunters. One outfit that I would suggest you have a look at however is Elk Valley Bighorn Outfitters. Long history and great area. Don't personally know the current owners but have heard good things about their operation. The previous owner ran a top notch outfit and from what I have been told the current owners do as well. https://elkvalleybighorn.ca/ ______________________________________________ The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who are bereft of that gift.

I think I am priced out on this one, until the kids graduate. Then I might be really priced out. I spoke to an outfitter yesterday in the Northern BC about 24. He wants $16,000 for goat alone. Or $28,000 for goat and caribou or goat and moose. There are some goat hunts in Alaska for $10-12K. There are also boat based goat hunts in Alaska and BC for $20-25,000. Not looked in the Yukon, but I can't imagine it would be cheaper. HTA (Cabelas) Mark's outfit. Has a variety of goat hunts in BC and Alaska. I spoke to them, they are telling me that fly in hunts are suffering a 100-150% increase in fuel cost. I think there is probably some truth to it, but everything cost more. Supply and demand I am sure would drive a lot of that.

Seems like once you take the aircraft transport/lodge element out of the trip the price comes down but obviously there is also the resident pressure issue. I’m not looking to kill a book goat and have some time so taking horses into the mountain and tent camping seems like it would be a good fit.

WTA has some hunts out of Cranbrook BC that are quite a bit cheaper. They about half of the companies they book with (own the outfitting company or own the concession or both) in the USA and Canada. Still something like $15,000. Combo's make them $23000. Trying to make that work, but I would rather do something else. I laughed when goat hunts were $10,000-15,000 in 2018. Now it looks like they are nother $5000-7000. Trying to rationalize it.
