If looking at Canada I would budget 35 to 45 for the hunt itself.

Check the websites of the outfitters listed with the Yukon Outfitters Association and the members on the Association of Mckenzie Mountain Outfitters. Prices have gone up a lot in the last few years.

dogcat....if you think that is bad, I know of one outfitter that is charging $125,000 for stone sheep. Plus federal GST, lic and tags, $6,000 for transport to camp, plus flight charges for meat, etc.

Wow! Larry the prices are getting insane, way beyond what most can handle. Glad I got my Stone on a self-guided hunt as a resident, and my Dall when prices were still reasonable.

So much for "putting sheep on the mountain", the saying by Wild Sheep Foundation...
At those prices, the sheep are gold....

Again, people will pay but at some point it will stop.

A lot of hunting today has gotten away from the fun and joy of just being hunting and outdoors to prestige and bragging rights. Look at me I got a bigger deer or elk than you, look at me I completed my slam of sheep! I do not see this changing anytime soon. Hunting has gotten way too commercial. If someone is willing to pay that much for a hunt then more power to the outfitter, I hope the outfitter laughs all the way to the bank.

Folks,

Gawd! I am so glad I was able to take a couple of Dall sheep as a resident when I lived in AK. North American hunting is really getting out of hand. One year's pay to hunt one animal. Africa is a so much better deal. Even if you don't get your leopard or whatever you will have taken probably a buffalo, a number of other trophies plus bait animals. There is no "track soup" at hunt's end.

If I want to hunt sheep, I have to hire an outfitter. It is that simple. The curse of being from Florida.

I have the grand slam. Is it recorded? No, nor will it ever be. Do I have some record book sheep? Yes I do. Not a single one is recorded nor will they ever be.

While I totally understand that there are those who seek to put things in the record book, not everyone using an outfitter is that way. Some of us have to hire an outfitter.

Sheep hunting became very fashionable and just like any fashion, it gets costly to keep up with Joneses
I’m with you Larry, I don’t score any of my lucky successes, I simply just for big old males and let the young ones live another day

I am in the same situation as Larry. I have taken the 4 sheep in North America. All very memorable hunts. Was looking at "one more" for a Dall, but at those prices, I am headed to Africa and Europe - sleep in a castle or cottage, eat great food, hunt a large variety of animals - what is not to like.

I’ve killed one sheep and that will be the only one. I cannot believe the prices. My friend told me a year or two back that stone sheep would hit a $100k. I could hardly believe it.

I remember that in the late nineties early 2000’s, dall sheep were around $10k, maybe cheaper. The prices have certainly outpaced inflation.

I’m just glad that I’ve been once….

I know one outfitter pretty well. He won’t book hunts more than year in advance as he has no idea of what his costs will be . He says that his costs have gone up exponentially.

At some point, it just isn’t worth it anymore. I’d like to do one more but I might just be too old. After that, I am done .

My hunting philosophy has evolved to the following:

If the game animal I am chasing has climbed higher than the clouds, then he has escaped.

Just look at Alaska how stupid expensive it got just for damn moose
MT got stupid expensive with elk and chances are fairly slim to get one for lot of NF areas

It is not about game management any more.

It is about money management.

How much can we get.

That's a load of horseshit. MT is overrun with Washington hunters that shoot any runt buck that runs in front of them rather than go home with their tag. If MT non-res licenses weren't expensive there'd be no game left.

You control the number of deer killed by the number of tags issued not the price.

Which is why MT finally slashed the number of doe permits and is considering antler restrictions. You go to a state presumably to shoot a trophy but whack a bunch of does and immature bucks. Congratulations.

I go to out of state to have fun hunting. In a different environment.

My wife asked me why I go out west trout fishing when I have a blue ribbon trout stream a few hundred yards away.

I said Wis. doesn't have mountains.

For me and my friends it is about the total experience.

Being set on getting a trophy can ruin a hunt.

Yeah not for me and many others. I can shoot runts all day long at home and a short drive away. If fun to you is shooting runts in a far away state then I can't help you and we're on a totally different wavelength. I have fun and enjoy the trip regardless of whether or not I shoot a trophy since I've killed plenty already.

Not of this discussion it isn't. It's about shooting immature deer for the sake of shooting something which I find pathetic.
