You guys are talking about two different mines. Cadomin above Jasper and in Alberta. Cardinal river mIne is in South Eastern BC.

I've hunted the area once and found it to be a cluster f**k of hunters sitting around waiting for some hapless ram to wander off the protected mine site or to wander down out of Jasper park or the surrounding hills in the late season to winter on the mine. It's a very heavily hunted area and when a ram is spotted in an area where it can be shot you are likely in for a footrace with several other hunters. Not my idea of a traditional sheep hunt.

I agree 100%.Not much of a hunt.

Ales, yes, there is some confusion as there is a small river called the Cardinal river that is adjacent to the south in an area known as mountain park. The mines are known as the Cadomin Mines because of the name of the tiny town there. One of the mines is owned by Cardinal River Coal. Anyway the Alberta hunting regulations list the no hunting zones in the area commonly referred to as the Cadomin mines in WMU 438 like this: From the Alberta hunting regulations synopsis:

The hunting of big game is not permitted in the following areas

-the Gregg River Resources Coal Mineral surface Lease in WMU438, and

-the Cardinal River Coal Mine Surface Lease in WMU 438. except for non-trophy sheep under the authority of a non trophy Sheep Special Licence(ewe draw).

Yup, there are many huge rams there and I suspect the next world record will come from there. Actually there are probably a couple candidates wandering around there right now as we speak.
