Big shortage of primers. When I went to Edmotnon on Family day long weekend (friday) I went to P & D and they had no Federal 210 and 215. I bought I box of Federal 210 GM

I was also in Red Deer that saturday and wen tinto Back Country Sports and they had 3 full boxes of Federal 210 and a few 215 so I bought the 3 full boxes of 210 primers.

A buddy of mine was in Edmonton last weekend and searched for primers and Winchester Powder- every one was out, and not sure when primers would be available.

I bought 1000 at the Swift Current gun show on the weekend. The story I got was that the US military has been hoarding primers to feed an 8,000,000 round a day training schedule. Planning a trip to iran soon?

We have a shortage at the range and they said it was the govt. I bought 4000 so that will hold me for a while. The price went up 40% on CCI BR2 primers.

Yes, large rifle primers are hard to find in the Edmonton area.

I managed to find 3,000 of Winchester LRM primers.

I just dropped the powder charge a couple of grains from my usual starting point and worked up some new loads for my .270 and 30-06 with those.

The new loads with the magnum primers showed pressure signs at apprx. 1.5 grains less powder than I would normally expect with standard large rifle primers.

Accuracy is as good or better than usual.

Well, I just checked and I have 45 large rifle primers, and 50 magnum rifle primers left...

The shortage better be shortlived.

I'm sitting on a few primers. About 200 RWS LRM, 960 RWS LR & 850 CCI LRM. Since the last shortage in, IIRC, 92 or 93 I'm not going to be caught low again.

I have experienced this shortage as well. When my LGS in Bashaw finally got a shipment of primers in I stocked up on large and small rifle primers. I now have over 4000. Should keep me going for a few months. thumb

600 actually it was 500 more CCI LRM's. I bought out Frank's Supermarket in Quesnel. All he has left is 100 Winchester LRM's. The rest is for pistols & shotguns. Says he's been waiting quite a while for primers.

Gents

It is the same in the UK, Australia and the US.

I have just managed to secure several thousand but left 2 dealers out of federal primers (several main dealers were already out of stock).

I fear it maybe a long time until the situation improves. I have heard atleast a year before the situation improves. It wouldn't surprise me if it was longer than that. These situations never seem to meet expectations in my experience.

OK, here's what I've been hearing & seeing. Winchester primers are trickling through. Some CCI LR. BUT almost no Fedral Rifle primers. I just bought 1000 each of Winchester LRM & LR's.

How is everyone making out with powders? Any difficulties getting your favorites? I've noticed IMR 4831 is getting harder to find.

The shop along the main drag through Grande Prairie was waiting for a shipment of IMR 4350 (which I needed). They seemed to have plenty of other stuff. Corlanes was also out of IMR 4350, but had plenty others available. Did I mention I need some IMR 4350? Better go check with Russells and Wholesale when I'm in town tomorrow.

I talked to my local dealer, Goble's Guns, in London, ON. They have lots of primers, and haven't heard of any shortage.

He did say that they're a PITA to import, lots of paperwork, and some dealers don't want to bother with that.
