Hey folks,

Its a little late this year, but I now have the DVD's from Saeed's hunting trip in the Moyowosi in October of last year.

The rules for the share list will be the same as in previous years. I can dig those up if we get any new participants.

Graylake is currently compressing the videos so that they will fit on a single layer DVD and will be ready to get the list started soon.

If you want to be on the list, reply to this thread with your real name, address and phone number, or PM me that info if you don't want it displayed for all to see. I prefer not to get it by e-mail (tough to track when I have requests all over the place). Also, if I don't get all the info (name, addy and phone #), you will be at the bottom of the list. Smiler

I will organize the list loosely based on geographical region and "first-come-first-served".

Cheers
Canuck

If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. "Graylake is currently compressing the videos so that they will fit on a single layer DVD "

That means all my hard workd of using less compression, and putting them on 4 double layer DVDs, will not be appreciated!

The quality is going to be very bad if all the video is put on a single DVD.

Hi Saeed!

Graylake is just compressing each video to fit on a SL DVD. So 4 SL DVDs total. The quality is obviously not as good as the original, but still pretty darn good.

We have had to do this the last few years as we ran into problems with folks on the list not being able to copy the DL DVDs. We like to complete our list fast, so we do it different than the US list was being done (although I see they are changing to our way of doing it). It seems everyone wants to keep a copy, so we get them to each make multiple copies and send them to two or three people instead of one. Usually everyone on the list has seen the videos within a couple months that way. Before that it could take close to a year.

But yes, by doing it that way only a few folks that see the original DL DVDs get to appreciate the superior quality of them.

Now that you bring it up though, I probably shouldn't have jumped the gun on the compression. Rather than assuming we'd run into the same problem as in previous years, with folks upgrading computers all the time, I could have built the list first and queried the participants whether they have the technology for copying DL DVDs. Then kept separate lists for those capable and those not.

Probably not too late for that though...I'll start checking with those that have signed up since the list is still pretty short.

Cheers
Chris

Seems that may be the case. Smiler Alternatively, we may have the hardware, but no knowledge what it is or how to use it (ie. 21st Century technology, Stone Age users!)

Isn't this fantastic!

I have always told my friends from Africa that their lack of knowledge of technical things was due to the extreme heat evaporating what they have between their ears!

Now we know the extreme cold has the exact same effect on humans!

What a wonderful discovery! clap

And we numb the pain of our frost-bitten brains with lots of beer. I am sure it doesn't help much with the technology, but we are very friendly and happy folk. Big Grin

I had to admit to Canuck that I didn't know DVDs had layers. I think it's the combination of 9 months worth of brain freeze each year, plus all the beer we drink during hockey season. Then when our three months of spring-summer-fall start we are so happy that all we do is sit outside, drink beer, and barbeque. Kinda tough to find the time to focus on technology that way.

Smiler The most common response I received when asking if folks had the capability to burn DL-DVDs was..."Huh?" So I then ask how old their computer is, and it was "I don't know...a few years??".

If you pay attention to what is being said, you will see and hear many little gems from this lot!

Walter walks a few yards to an ant hill, and lies there for his zebra to come close.

A couple of hours later, he shoots it, and says "That was a great hunt! I enjoyed it" Roy comes up with something like "yeah, and you did not have to walk a single step either"

This love hate relationship between Roy and Walter started years ago. And despite Walter non-stop efforts to annoy Roy, Roy has refrained from paying him back.

At one camp in Matetsi, we had a bar, with a lockable storage for driunks. Apparebtly the camp staff like it too much.

Walter managed to remove the wood backing of the bar, took all the drinks out, and put things back.

In teh evening, Roy opens the lock, wanting to get some after dinner drinks.

All hell broke loose, and Walter had a field day making sure Roy gets into the mood of strangling everyone who worked there!

Another time we were shooting birds for a change.

I shot a few, and handed Walter the shotgun to shoot some.

He kept missing, so Roy takes the shootign sticks and puts them up for Walter to rest his shotgun on. Walter turns around, puts the shotgun barrel a few inches from Roy's ears, and fires 5 shots in succession!

Roy was screaming that he will GET Walter.

He never did, but has never forgotten that episode either.

On our hunts, it seems everyone is trying their best to annoy everyone else!

Aaaah, hunting & shenanigans! How does Walter plan to top himself? Or, does one dare to ask?

You know, just a suggestion here, if Roy were to install a Sattelite T.V., it might distract Walter and lessen his "annoying" ways.

We don't like TVs, radios or music in camp.

Walter had a radio with him once, and he kept telling us all the days news at dinner.

That radio developed terminal sickenss and never worked again!

One year he asked to use my sattelite phone, which I was glad to lend him. With instructions that he makes his call, then turn it off.

We were sitting at dinner, when I heard the phone ring. I asked him about it, and he said he called someone and left a message for him to call back.

I took my phone back, and he had to provide his own sattelite phone phone to use ever since.

One time someone had an ipod, with one of those speakers you can connect to it.

It was sat on the table in the dining room blasting music as we came into camp.

I said very loudly that I was going to my tent, and if that music blaster was still on, I would shoot it.

Never heard it again.
