I have hunted sheep all over BC and in the southern half of the Province most is done from the roads. I hunt bighorns in about 5 spots where you glass from the hood of the truck. I always put my spotting scope away when I here a vehicle. People overlook these areas thinking the rams are way back there. One area, guys park their horse trailers to get to the back of a valley while I glass 500m from their trucks at rams. The rams have moved out of the typical sheepy areas into these marginal areas that most often get overlooked.

I would look at these marginal areas connected to good sheep areas for the rams. The good areas will be hunted hard and the big rams know this and they move to the marginal areas.

Good luck, I am hunting sheep on Sept. 15 as my dad as a permit in the Ashnola area starting then. We went down Saturday and located a band of 13 rams with three nice ones. It was in area really marginal for sheep.

Hi all,

Didn't post a message way back titled "Where are the bears?" Well, now it's time for a "Where are the rams?" post. ;-)

I'm getting fitter, that is the good part, the down side is, I'm not seeing any sheep. Two more weekends to go, and then I should have narrowed it down a bit. I've taken the week after the September long weekend off...I plan to camp in a promising area and stay through Saturday, giving me four hunting days...if I can find a promising area. Maybe I should get out earlier, stay longer, but I can't find tracks, trails, droppings, or bedding places either...

How are your preparations going? Seen any bigguns yet, or smalluns for that matter....ewes, anything????

The fact that I'm NOT seeing other hunters might be a give away...on the other hand, I HAVE been trying to get away from the "crowds" by choosing an area that is accessible by biking/hiking only (and horses), but not by motorized vehicle. The area I visited two weeks ago is 9 miles from the nearest parking lot...

Thanks for your suggestions though. I've heard of a hunter who would deliberately NOT take his truck, but his wife's car, when going scouting or sheep hunting, so nobody could recognize it and know where he was focusing his efforts.

I guess I still have a lot of work ahead of me...
