http://www.richmond-news.com/n...nting-ban-1.23277620 Poll: majority of British Columbians agree with grizzly bear hunting ban Melissa Shaw / Vancouver is Awesome APRIL 23, 2018 08:03 PM The majority of British Columbians approve of a ban on hunting grizzly bears in the province, according to a new poll from Research Co. In an online survey, 82 per cent of British Columbians say they agree with the grizzly bear hunting ban, which came into effect on April 1. There are about 15,000 grizzly bears in B.C. and 250 are killed every year, according to estimates by the Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations. Support for the ban was higher among women at 87 per cent compared to 79 per cent for men. Youth between the ages of 18-to-34 had the highest levels of support at 87 per cent and falling to 80 per cent for those aged 55 and over. The grizzly bear hunting ban gained the most favour in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island at 84 per cent falling to 76 per cent in the rest of the province. “Most British Columbians have embraced the ban on grizzly bear hunting,” says Mario Canseco, President of Research Co. “The survey also shows that the feelings of residents on issues like trophy hunting and furring are clearly defined, while others, such as the use of animals in rodeos, are more contentious.” The poll revealed that 92 per cent of the people living in B.C. are against trophy hunting, 79 per cent don’t approve of killing animals for their fur and 55 per cent are against the use of animals in rodeos. BC Liberal voters were more likely to support the use of animals in rodeos with 53 per cent in favour compared to 44 per cent of Green Party voters and 29 per cent of NDP voters. Three out of four British Columbians are in favour of hunting animals for meat and four in five feel the same way about eating animals. The highest levels of opposition to eating animals, 21 per cent, was recorded among those aged 18-to-34. How does this get past an editor and get passed of as factual and relevant news? Rarely does this type of "news" report the number of people who took the poll. BC's population is just over 4.5 million, so if 5,000 fervent anti hunters did the poll, that gets passed off as the voice of BC? Do you have to be a resident of BC to take the poll? What is the split between Urban and Rural poll respondents? Can you take the poll multiple times?

It would be revealing I think to see the poll questions and exactly where the poll was conducted. Something about 82 % of BC residents agreeing with the Grizzly hunting ban just doesn't ring true. What's the chances the poll questions were highly skewed to elicit a negative response ? How likely that most respondents contacted were inhabitants of Vancouver and Victoria ? Interesting also that hunting for meat finds favour from the same respondents who, apparently, so strongly disapprove of Grizzly hunting. Obviously the poll purposely obscured some relevant facts. What percentage of those polled would have known beforehand the actual Grizzly population of BC and it's historical population trend ? Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

Incredible, virtually. If this poll is anywhere near accurate, the majority of BC residents must lead very boring lives...and like it.

It's all that Pot they smoke. Polls are really meaningless , usually the pollster has an agenda and people pile on to make it go their way. Grizz Indeed, no human being has yet lived under conditions which, considering the prevailing climates of the past, can be regarded as normal. Sounds like Vancouver, California? This is the future everywhere if we don't take steps to stop it.

That is why they call BC the California of Canada. As with most jurisdictions the big urban centres run things. The Greater Vancouver area and the south end of Vancouver Island have the numbers and they dictate to the rest of the province how things will be. Just as Federally the huge population in Ontario and Quebec disproportionately influence what happens in the Federal election. Now we have Trudeau...okay, best to stay off that topic. Just thinking about Trudeau destr

In college I took a class in statistics. The professor was a devout women's libber back when that was popular but as a teacher she really knew her stuff. She opened the class with the statement that "milk drinking leads to heroin addiction and before this class is finished I'll prove it". Obviously since most people started life drinking milk it stands to reason that it must be a contributing factor in becoming addicted to heroin. The point of this was of course the misuse of statistics and biasing them to reach the desired conclusion. This poll seems to meet those standards rather well. It's a sad but true fact in today's society both in Canada and the US that people who live in an urban environment know precise little about nature so they're easily swayed by this kind of targeted opinion polling. The poll is known as a push poll. The questions are designed to get the wanted response. Another trick is to select the people polled, for example university or blue collar. Polls have become another method of shaping public opinion. Dave

The rest of BC needs to excommunicate Vancouver back to Seattle where it belongs.

That may not be a good idea. Seattle is becoming more like California every day. Dave

I this case North is a direction not a place. North in BC is from New Hazelton to the Yukon boarder Member NRA, NFA,CSSA,DSC,SCI,AFGA

The NRA has done some extensive research. On these polls, the answers are often based upon how the question is presented. Hard core hunters gave “wrong” answers if the questions were worded a certain way. I am not saying the poll is wrong. Food for thought .
